BenQ HT3550 Projector (refurbished) $1079 with free shipping

Just noticed the projector is on sale for $1079 plus tax. I believe a refurbished unit has a 1 year warranty versus 3 year for new.

Just for awareness, there was a better deal on this projector over the summer (see link below). Unfortunately I was too slow to get it. This seems to me to be the best deal going on a 4k projector this holiday.

Old HT3550 deal ($872.90)
https://slickdeals.net/f/13207900-benq-refurb-mh535fhd-1080p-projector-347-28-el2870u-4k-monitor-201-free-s-h

The Optoma UHD50 seems like a solid deal, but I have concerns I just won't be happy with it. To me the extra $80-$90 to get the HT3550 refurbished unit seems like the better deal. It's a generation newer on the 0.47 chip, fixes the "light border" the 1st gen was know for, is a slightly shorter throw, which will let me go from a 92" to a 100" without moving the projector mount.

Optoma UHD50:

Great post, I've been waiting to pull the trigger on 4k but it seems like we're reaching the sweet spot for value that wasn't there a year or two ago.

I've been waiting for that summer deal to happen again but no dice so far. I still have about a month before Im ready to set it up so hoping an even better deal comes along before Christmas.

These units had pretty common manufacturing issues originally, I'm not sure if those are still around. More recently there have been firmware issues from BenQ.

You might want to look on the HT3550 owner threads at AV forums and see if all the issues have been resolved. I'd be weary of a refurbished one of these unless you really know what you're doing with projectors.

I got in on that deal thanks to deal alerts. I am extremely pleased. The only gripe I have is that it does make quite a bit of noise once it starts displaying a picture. Otherwise, it's stunning right out of the box. Didn't have to tweak settings at all. The blacks are so pure, I'm not much of a videophile and don't have a keen eye for colors in general. But it's definitely something I noticed immediately coming from my previous BenQ .

That 3550 deal was shortlived and appears to be a mistaken price point they didn't want paired with a coupon.

That said, I'll gladly get up early mon hoping they do it again. I'd love to upgrade to a 3550.

I used Costco citi card to buy it to get 2 years extended warranty thus making the warranty as brand new

Costco extended warranty handled by Technical Concierge sucks. They will find any possible excuse to refuse your warranty e.g. scratch on the item. Just experienced it first hand and it is not anywhere close to the service you'd expect from Costco. So I highly doubt they will cover a refurbished unit.
