This is an excellent deal. 4GB of RAM on Chromebooks is just fine unless you are a developer. See the review in laptopmag[dot]com for some documentation (HP Chromebook 15 de0517wm). Many Chromebooks that cost more than $299 have less good specs. This HP and the Acer 715 for $299 at Walmart are excellent deals for those looking to purchase a new Chromebook for $300.

All of these will be fine for homework through google classroom. The HP and especially the Acer have much better build quality. They also have better and larger screens (both IPS). For people who for whatever reason will feel bad about not having 8GB of RAM, they should seek out models with that specification. For Chromebooks at or below the $300 price, I recommend these HP and Acer models over the Asus 425. (The very good website Chrome Unboxed has unboxing and review videos/posts about the Asus 425 if you want more input. Chrome Unboxed is also an all around great resource for Chromebooks.) All in all, although I definitely recommend these HP and Acer models over the Asus, all of these should serve you fine.

How does this compare to the HP x360 2-in-1 Chromebook from Best Buy Black Friday deal for $350, posted and active now. https://slickdeals.net/f/13530085-best-buy-black-friday-hp-14-x360-convertible-2-in-1-chromebook-intel-i3-8gb-ram-64gb-emmc-flash-memory-for-349-00?v=1&src=SiteSearch

From what I can tell, maybe the 14" has a slightly better i3 chip, 8GB of RAM, but less storage (64GB). Other thoughts about the performance and features/build of these two compared to one another?

Great deal! I'm almost bummed I just bought the 14" x360 today. Mine has double the RAM, but half of the storage. For a multitasker, like myself, who constantly has dozens of tabs open at once RAM is more important than storage, but this is also a great deal. I do wish I had this 15.6" screen though.

There's no better web browsing machine than a Chromebook IMO. Tablets are great, but if you spend a lot of time on forums and do a lot of typing, like I do, the touchscreen keyboard gets old. I like my physical keyboards with tactile keys.

I would not feel bad about the x360 14. Unlike the Acer 715 and this HP 15 at Walmart for $299, the x360 is a 2-in-1 (which can be or become important for some people). It also has 8GB of RAM and you can add an SD card for additional storage (the Samsung EVO Select at Amazon is great for this on all three of these Chromebooks). Those two 15.6 models are marketed, I think, as business models. Their advantages seem to include larger screen, better build quality, and more storage. Not only are there different kinds of trade-offs when comparing different models, but very often there will be another model coming out soon or another sale coming up soon. Often we need to buy something at some point even though that will still be true. (Also, our time is one of our most valuable things and we cannot spend too much of it exploring additional options; at some point, it is often better just to be happy with our choices and stop expending our valuable time exploring until another occasion/purchase.) Bearing in mind the hard definitively to judge trade offs, all three of these Chromebooks are great and I do not think anyone should feel bad about buying any of them.

All of that is correct. I think the other big difference is the weight. This one is 5lbs, so a bit heavier than the x360 if that matters to you.

Edit: for some reason it says "product weight" is 3.99lbs, while the "assembled product weight" is 5. Not sure which of those is the correct weight.

Nah 4gb of ram isn't great on chrome books anymore. Not with Linux.
Come on man... that's just pure BS, or someone that doesn't know the first thing about Chrome OS. 4GB is plenty on the right processor. bulb

Just bought it - it has a numeric keypad. And seems to be nice keyboard with good travel.
