Essential phone users unite! It's been out for two years and it's still getting same day updates like the latest Pixel phones. Not too many 2 year old phones on Android 10 and the hardware specs are still very competitive. It's a shame the lackluster camera performance caused the phone to be a commercial flop. It's a beautiful looking phone too.

I wish they were more profitable and viable. Typing from my Essential as well with the latest update, although not sure how long the hardware can keep up. Battery life is definitely not what it used to be.

That is impressive. I hope in the future Android phones get at least 4 years of updates. Every year or two it's like buy, buy, buy.

i wish that HD audio adapter thing went on sale..
i have 2 360 cameras and never used them once. software is a bit fidgety, doesn't always recognize it, and it doesn't fit unless i take off my case.

other than that, i do love everything about the essential.. but it's getting that time for an upgrade Frown rip essential 2.0

i own a 360 camera, it was a bit fidgity and more gimmicky than anything else as the picture quality wasn't as good as the main camera (which already wasn't stellar). Great phone though. Battery life is slowly vanishing.

I have this camera for my Essential. There are many bugs when using it, and when you learn to work around them for the most part, it's great. A few things to know about using the camera,
-it will deplete phone battery life crazy fast, like from 100% to 40% in about half hour.
-when using the 360 camera, the phone will shut itself off if the battery is at or below 35-40%, which is why I didn't mention the 100 to 1% time above. (Workaround, carry a portable charger and if you're planning on using the 360 camera, keep your phone fully charged.)
-you can't leave the camera plugged into the phone and active for more than about 4-5 continuous minutes. The phone will go into a continuous restart cycle until you remove the camera. (Workaround, take your pic/video and then immediately remove the camera.) Also yes, the longest video I've ever been able to shoot with it is about 3 mins before the phone goes into it's restart cycling.
-picture and video quality are just as good, if not better, than the actual phone camera. It doesn't do low light super well, but then neither does the phone.

I got this 360 camera last BF for the same price, and would totally recommend it at that price. I use it more often than ever thought I would, and I've accidentally forgotten it on vacation and missed having it. Even with all it's setbacks, it's still totally worth it, and is much more than novelty.

Hope this helps some of you.

I agree that the battery life is going downhill...bad news on that front since the website iFixIt rated it 1/10 for repairability. They basically said no user will be able to work on the phone including a battery swap.

Glad (or sad) that I am not the only one with endless issues when trying to use the 360 camera... It only seems to have gotten worse after Android 10.

This is a pretty regular price these days. Also as others say. It's a great gimmick but nothing you can rely on

FWIW - The ifixit video above was an incorrect attempt at disassembly. Others have been able to easily open the PH-1 and remove the battery. Trouble is if you can't do that or find a battery, you have to find someone who can. Many phone repair folks have never seen a ph-1.

I've used the 360 camera for a lot longer than a few minutes without problems. As in 20-25 minutes straight. It doesn't work well if you move it, its more of a stationary item. I used it to take a 360 spherical video of a game at a party and I used it in each room of a house for sale to make vr "photos" of each room.

There is already a 3rd party rom section for the phone on XDA, so likely we'll be able to do a half hours worth of flashing and continue getting updates for quite some time.

Mine is plugged in at home 90% of the time, 2 years old, battery is about the same as when I got it, but I never use a fast charger, just an old usb slow charger and a usb-a to usb-c cable.

Boy, all the essential phone owners are all in the same thread. I honestly wanted them to succeed but they made some really, really terrible decisions. Last I checked they're up for sale so I doubt there'll be another phone from them.

I loved my essential phone so much. However, couple of weeks ago the phone just sent dead on me. I didn't everything I can to turn it on but nothing worked. I was without the phone for almost two days. I kept the phone on original charger for two days straight. Finally it woke up.

Too bad because by that time I gave up and moved on to the pixel phone.

I need to replace two batteries in my ph-1 phones. One had only about 60 percent capacity per accubattery.

They're not fun to do but there's plenty of people that have done it. Good info on the essential subreddit.
