but why not buy a cheap(er) tablet like the fireHD and use it for this purpose, along with Alexa support .

I don't think what you're proposing could compare to a dedicated frame like this until there is an actual software solution that would turn a tablet into an actual digital photo frame. I used to think the same thing as you...until I actually tried one of these. You can create playlists of photos and people can email pictures directly to the frame seamlessly. This is especially important for more the technologically challenged. You're not going to get that kind of turnkey ease with a repurposed tablet. So in a way, you're probably paying up for the software and cloud storage that this comes with.

Keep in mind this version came out in December of 2017 and a newer version came out in August of this year.

The first 3 top reviews are also really bad.

I actually have both. 13.3 is a bit bigger (obviously) but honestly they're essentially the same. I don't find the 10" to be small and it probably fits better with other regular picture frames. I do not notice any difference in resolution between the two either. I was actually surprised at how crisp the colors and resolution were on the 10" given the 1280x800 resolution.

I was able to pick up two of the newer frames as gifts when they went on sale a week ago and the only difference between the newer models and these is the magnetic remote control mount on the back and the ability to wall mount the new frames

Why not a Google Nest Hub or a Google Nest Hub Max? Direct Google Photos integration.

I've been chasing this for years now ... and have yet to find something that can handle my photo library with easy. They all seem to either struggle or crash or just go dormant and no longer supported/updated.

Google Photos is probably the only exception. Trying to avoid having to upload to GP just for a photo frame application.

This is good for parents (or grandparents) where other family members can easily push pictures to the frame.
