Buckeye fan just posted some settings that kept me from returning mine 2yrs ago:

Settings for a great picture, deep blacks and better contrast:
TV Brightness: Brighter
Picture Size: Direct
Picture mode: Normal
Dynamic contrast: Off
Backlight: 100
Brightness: 42 (important)
Contrast: 100 (important)
Sharpness: 70; 50 if weak signal
Color: 50 to 55, experiment
Tint: 0
Color temp: Cool (important)

To get the most punch, the items marked important are necessary to overcome the lack of nits, or brightness. Raising brightness over 42 only washes out the screen and hurts excellent black levels.

The TCLs are really the go to for budget TV's. Their picture quality destroys the other "cheap" brands for not much more. I think they are the perfect balance of price to performance. On this particular model that I got a steal on at Target in the past I would say for bright scenes it's great. You can see a little "wash out" in really dark scenes. You can minimize it by adjusting the settings. Overall the picture quality is like 85% as good as a mid range from Samsung or sony or LG, but for 65% of the price. So the value is definitely there. It's also well past being "good enough" which I think the likes of hisense or element or other cheapo brands don't even hit the "good enough" mark to justify their price.

If you want amazing picture quality you gotta pay for it. But when you are in the realm of just wanting to get past "good enough" and not overpay this is the sweet spot. Sure you can go up to the $500 range and get something better. But the question is will it be twice as good? I don't think you could find that.

Now if you compare this to a $3500 OLED yeah you will think it looks like crap next to it. But if you lined up a dozen random TV's in the $150 to $350 range, this would probably be the top.

The 50" is on sale too and comes out to $202 if you can find it in stock locally.

The TCL 4 Series 2019 Roku Smart TV is a decent TV overall. It delivers decent picture quality and displays deep blacks in a dark room thanks to its high native contrast ratio. It can't get very bright, and although it has good reflection handling it isn't suitable for a bright room. It lacks a wide color gamut, and due to its low HDR peak brightness, it can't deliver HDR content with vivid colors and bright highlights. The response time is fast and the TV displays fast-moving content with very little blur trail. It offers a responsive gaming performance thanks to the low input lag but unfortunately, it lacks any support for advanced gaming features like FreeSync.

If you hit "Change Store" it will show other stores in your area. Needs to be in stock in order to order for pickup.

Got this last week for the same price with chat with Target.

Great tv and worth the extra cost over Hisense and Philips.

Pic quality as great as my more expensive samsung and lg.
