Dahua OEM kit, no IVS features

Lorex BF-cyberweek related thread here:
https://slickdeals.net/f/13534846-25-off-lorex-site-wide

note: a lot of the Lorex kits are no longer available

junction boxes which should work for these ( optional - depends on how you want to set these up .. )

Hey Mat, I have been reading your threads on here and ipcam... so when you post the deal, does it mean you endorse them Smilie ?
I know each of us have different requirements but just want to check how good is this cam?
You mention that 4K are good at daylight and not much so at night. So should one buy this or buy 2K with bigger sensor and better lens?

Thanks Panini,

1) I think there really is no perfect kit. So you'll need to decide on what compromises you're willing to accept.

2) The Lorex versions of the Dahua OEM cameras should be close to the reviews you see at ipcamtalk on image capture quality. So, that should give you an idea of what is possible.

3) The value for this kit imho looks good, 8x "4K" cameras + NVR for < $800 .. cameras iirc have 1/1.8" sensors - so should do fairly well. There were a few other kits from Lorex and Montavue which I liked and would be worth comparing your options to - see those threads.

4) Wished it was a 16 channel NVR instead so I can augment with a few Dahua OEM starlight+ models.

5) No IVS features... of course, this does mean the kit is typically more affordable as the cameras probably have less compute power and ram due to not needing to do the IVS calculations. ( note, you can pair these cameras up with Blue Iris or similar and have Blue Iris do those sort of calculations )

hmmm... I really wished this was a 16 channel NVR. There's instructions for the brave to flash Dahua OEM firmware on it... that would be nice as you could add Dahua OEM cameras with IVS to this kit and get a better setup.

This kit I think is good if you only think you need at most 6-7 cameras - because there's always another camera you want to add later... if you think you at most want 8 cameras, look for a 16 channel kit.

Is the another app that works with this system? The Lorex Cloud app on iPhone is abysmal.

Hi Daskid,

as this kit uses IP standards you can use 3rd party app.

For example Android many people like the TinyCam Pro app for live view. So I would check the apple iphone app store and see what apps are well liked for rtsp security camera streaming.

( remember to use a VPN server on your router to do more secure remote access )

As someone that got in on a Lorex deal last year, I can confirm the daytime video is amazing on the Lorex 4Ks.

Night video has a lot to be desired unless your focus area has a lot of ambient light (ie, parking lots, or night time outside light) or if you wish to ID a perpetrator.

As Mat and others say, Starlights make a HUGE difference for night time videos.

This year I went with a cheaper 16 channel, 4K, 4 camera kit from Montavue. I will use those cams for a couple areas with good ambient light on the front of my house. Then I bought a 2 camera varifocal kit from them (hoping I don''t regret not going with starlight varifocals), then 6 Starlight OEM turrets from another seller (hoping I don't regret not going with Starlight Varifocals).

I'm hoping I get it all this week and will switch out/sell any cams I may not like. I wanted to go with some different things so not all of my eggs are in one basket, like my disappointment with the Lorex kit I bought last year.

Also in my situation last year, my cameras were on back-order and it took just over a month for them to ship. Lorex customer service is out sourced. Though they are nice, it takes a long time to get through to someone, and when you do, you get a lot of inaccurate/wrong information from them including status, updates, and timeframes, and they also will never initiate a call back to you, you ALWAYS have to call them and wait in their call queue.

My order this year, Montavue already shipped my kit and cams, they will be here Wed, and the customer service is US based.

Hi Matt, I am trying to get setup a camera system for a relative of mines. So, I decided to pull the trigger on this Lorex deal that you have posted. But I am looking to upgrade two of the cameras that works better in a low light setting.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1

What are your thoughts on this camera? Thanks in advance.

I know I'm not Matt and I'm not trying to answer your question but I thought it'd point out that apparently lorex has swapped the nvr that was included originally with this kit with an N841A82 instead of the NR9082X that was listed here. So you might want to check and see if that matters to you.

Please correct me if I'm wrong Matt

Hi playboy

"4mp PTZ IP camera with 1/3 CMOS"

I'd avoid the 4MP cameras with such a small sensor.. the low light performance of the camera will not be as good as others. The Amcrest PTZ deals that happened earlier today were good ones.

Thanks Doctor P!

I have not been keeping as close of an eye on the NVR boxes as I should. Definitely look closer at those as some of the NVR models clearly have better processing power than the others.

For example we often look at specs like:
Network Bit Rate: 320Mbps total
for the NR9082X
ref:
https://www.lorextechnology.com/d...ecs_R1.pdf

Yes this only gives us a single idea and there's a lot more going on potentially in a NVR, still we need to find a way to compare them and this helps ( sort of like MPG / top speed / horse power .. for cars.. )

Thank you Doctor P, I didn't realize that they swapped out NVRs. I appreciate the help.

If you're new to security cameras check out the following notes:

1) Wiki notes in the original Costco Lorex deal thread ( kit is no longer available - they have a newer version now at Costco )
https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99

2) Wiki notes from last year's BF-cyberweek deals
https://slickdeals.net/f/12200566-security-camera-security-camera-system-black-friday-cyber-week-2018-master-list

3) Look for the cliff notes at ipcamtalk

The NVR Lorex swapped in: N841A82
Network Bit Rate 80Mbps total
ref:
https://www.lorextechnology.com/d...eet_R3.pdf

Very disappointed with Lorex changing the NVR like this. I would return the kit if you ordered it before the swap and they send you this white NVR.

the original NVR included in the kit was far superior
Network Bit Rate: 320Mbps total
for the NR9082X

Thanks for the cliffnotes, and yes gathering the info from you and doctor P. I attempted to call Lorex to ask them to swap nvr for my order but the sales person insisted that the N841 was a newer and better model than NR9082 until he saw the different in the network bit rate. So I have to wait for order to be delivered and have ups return it back to lorex
