The major difference seems to be that the new panel has better color accuracy. Also it is native 120Hz. 3418 is native 100, overclocked to 120.
I can confirm the Overclock to 120hz on the 3418 is a headache. Keeping it at 120hz, I have to unplug the monitor for a full 1 minute at least once a week because it doesn't turn on connected to my RTX2080. I deal with it because 120hz is great, but so annoying.

For me I won't upgrade this monitor until there are 38" 165hz ultrawide monitors for under $1k. Maybe a year or two.

Also, just my own experience but Dell monitors are the best. I own a 2405FPW (2005) that is 12bit and still works, and dell always has great stands. Worth the extra money.

After shopping this monitor vs. multiple LG options and others, this seems to be the ultimate 32/34 display (Nano IPS, high refresh rate, low lag...). The AW3420 has been on sale from $1499 to $999 at Dell all weekend, so this price is very good (forgoing Dell.com CB options).

That said, this monitor requires that you use DisplayPort not only for GSync, like other GSync monitors, but unfortunately for some it also requires DP for the high refresh rates. The HDMI input is only 1.4 and limited to 60Hz - per the manual.
I thought the 60Hz HDMI would be a problem, but it actually isn't. I use HDMI to connect to my work computer, while keeping DP connected to my personal desktop. It works great in this use case. It does suck that there are only 2 input ports, but this isn't a "productivity" monitor like my old U2711. I have 0 regrets from making the switch.

As someone else has said, you're better off buying direct from Dell for the guaranteed warranty. The cannot-be-mentioned cashback site is giving 15% for Dell today, so it comes out to be about the same price as Amazon.

What kind of video card is required to do 3440x1440@120 for a modern game at high quality settings? I doubt my 1080Ti is up to the task.

What exactly are the disadvantages to these 'older' inputs?

nothing at all since most GPUs are going to be struggling to push this monitor to it's limit on AAA games.

keep in mind you can buy this from Dell.com with 15% CB websites. Basically the same outcome price wise and Dell Warranty.
I would think the manufacturer warranty still applies to items purchased through Amazon.

I can second this. I just bought at dell for 1k and got it a few days ago. I have had every type of monitor under the sun and finally splurged on this one. I do not regret it one iota. It is absolutely the best monitor I've ever owned. I went from a 32 inch LG VA panel with the same specs (gsync, 144hz, 1ms response etc) and it was like going from SD to HD for the first time. Just incredible.
It should be covered under the 30 day return policy (no restocking fees) with Dell. If you chat them up, they will likely offer you 10% credit back for keeping it rather than returning it.

Still waiting on mine as well. Says "Preparing for shipment" on Amazon. A bit frustrating given that it's in stock and shipping currently.
