The 2MP Sony Exmor R "Starvis" sensors are some of the best out there for low light performance. This is an older version but still very good.

Very tempting. Just can't think of a use for a 12x zoom

Excellent camera. Rarely it goes on sale. Was this price one time before that I know of. Have installed 3 for other people. Finally got one for myself. The 12x zoom makes up for the 2MP resolution. Due to the weight and size it can be a pain to install but worth it due to the ruggedness and intimidation factor it gives.

I purchased this back in august to use as an license plate reader and the image quality is great and I love the fact that I can PTZ using optical zoom.

2MP pass
Hi Tokm908, Rippa

This actually is a very good deal for a quality product.

The sensor is a good one, and I see that you like to poopoo 2MP - but for a PTZ where you can move and zoom in - it does not mater as much as being able to get a good zoom and quality low light performance.

A few points:
1) Sensor size - larger sensor ( as better 8MP cameras have example 1/1.8" ) will mean a significantly larger PTZ housing. That will cost you more, as everything about the camera needs to be stronger for that extra weight - and it will need more power to move.

2) PTZ - you can zoom in so evaluating a PTZ based on a fixed position camera criteria is not a good idea. For a fixed position camera having more resolution makes a larger difference as it does not move.

2MP still seems super low for $200 though, sadly, otherwise I'd hit this!

re 1 I totally agree. This thing is already pretty damn hefty compared to all the other cameras. I bought one at the last sale but have yet to install it. It's a quality product fromw hat i've seen of it so far.

The optical zoom in gives you a way better picture than trying to zoom in on a high mp video. Ofcourse you have to have this camera aimed at what ever you're trying to identify.

This seems similar in specs and appearance to a Dahua SD49225T-HN camera I have. On the fence, this is about 65% of the price of the Dahua. 2MP is not an issue at all, especially with that optical zoom.

Hi LivingWell,

For a quality PTZ outdoor rated camera, $200 is a significantly low price.

Here is an example of the 25x Dahua OEM 2MP starlight PTZ
