This would be VERY difficult to use for Astrophotography. But if you want to do super short exposures, this will still work. It will be very hard to polar align without spending extra for something like a QHY polemaster. If this 8SE has the allstar polar alignment on its software, then it would be possible to do some Astrophotography. Otherwise, I could only see attaching a used DSLR on the back with a T adapater and T ring for very short 10 second exposures for deep sky objects. You would be limited to objects like the Orion Nebula or planetary nebula such as the Helix and Ring nebulas. If you're in a city with light pollution, you can only image planets and the moon (but possibly the Orion Nebula).

Completely agree...this is an incredible deal. I have the 6SE and just decided to upgrade to the 8SE at this price point.

A couple notes:

1. It's takes 8 AA batteries. Depending on usage/tracking, expect them to last 4 to 6 hours. You can get a Celestron power bank or use AC power.

2. This isn't a typical equatorial mount where you can manually move the scope around. Once polar alignment is done, it's best to adjust the direction using the arrow keys on the controller.

3. There's a lot of flexibility in this scope and it's easy to start using, and can really grow with you for years to come.

4. This is also a great scope for entry level astrophotography.

I'm showing 15% back promotion on Amazon Prime Store Credit Card on this telescope. So that essentially makes it $679 before taxes... EEK!

VERY GOOD deal for visual. The Tube alone should cost about $800 without the GoTo mount computer/controller.

I usually see the 15% back with Amazon Prime Visa type deals on the product page but I'm not seeing it here. Is this targeted?

EDIT: Shows up on web but not the app for me. Strange.

If you apply now, can you even use the card to pay for the product? Do they give you the card details online?

Adorama won't price match. But BH Photo did in case anyone would like to use them.

You should be able to use the credit card for purchases right away. Just dont add a new shipping address or they'll need you to enter the credit card number. Which you won't have until it arrives in the mail. You'll get the $100 gift card to use instantly too and possibly an addition 5% off or more for cashback.
