This is exactly what I'm looking for. Don't know how good of a deal it is though... camel says Amazon has been down to $550 and that's it...
I'm at the age where I need to step up from my non-stick Big Lots pans that give me a teaspoon of nonstick coating per meal ... But worried since I remember using aluminum(maybe stainless?) pans in the 80s/90s and literally everything stuck to them and were a pain to clean. they were junk though. The reviews are mixed on cleaning... I'm sure they'll be fine but I have nightmares of any non-stick pans and cleaning them
I've had these for a few years now. All clad is heirloom quality cookware. It will literally outlive you. Cleaning has never been a major issue. The pans heat up quickly — start with medium heat always then calibrate up or down from there. They are by no means nonstick, but doesn't mean you have to use excess oil or fat in the pan either. If anything burns on or sticks after cooking (steak at high heat, for example) I let it soak in soap and water then it all scrubs away pretty easily after. Also, barkeeper's friend is really your friend

Can anyone shed light on what makes this superior and far expensive than the cheaper $20-30 ones at jcpenney/Macy's. Sorry I'm not an expert at cookware
Those pans are usually thinner which would lead to uneven heating and prone to warping (especially on induction).

The D5 being discussed is 5 layers of aluminum and stainless steel bonded together all around from rim to rim which helps with ensuring the difference between the temperature on one part of the pan is similar to another part. This does not mean there is zero difference in temperature in different parts of the All-Clad cooking surface; it;s just smaller than the cheaper pans

With uneven heating, part of the food being cooked would be overcooked/burning while other parts are still undercooked.

All-Clad was the only game in town until their patent for bonding layers of different metals together expired. Now there are different brands such as Cuisinart Multi-Clad, Tramontina Tri-ply etc but they are not Made in USA like All-Clad which is where part of the price premium comes from. Cuisinart Multi-Clad and Tramontina Tri-ply are 3 layers (tri-ply) so the equivalent to All-Clad would be the D3 line not D5..

Anything on d3?
The 7 Piece D3 is on sale. I would avoid the D3 compact.

If you're cooking certain temperature-sensitive foods (eggs are the prime example), these pans heat up evenly and make it easier to control temperature. If you're cooking something covered in water then it probably doesn't matter because the water will even out any temperature differences better than fancy pans ever could.

Any other pans I should buy with this set? Want to take advantage of the 25% off! Should I get a nonstick to make eggs?
