How does this compare to the $99 Walmart Nighthawk AX4?

This one is not Wifi 6 and the Nighthawk AX4 is. That said, I tried the Nighthawk AX4 with my Wifi 6 enabled Galaxy S 10e and the speeds were terrible. Switched off Wifi 6 on the router and speeds were okay. My opinion is that Wifi 6 is not ready for prime-time, so I returned it. I'd rather have a proven device that gives great speeds on all my 5 GHz devices using Wifi 5. Happy to find this on sale.

Pretty good router but it runs hot. Def recommend getting some usb fans and propping this thing above them.

How does this compare to the ASUS RT-AC68U? Worth upgrading to?

I've got both, though I've never run either the 68U or a Blue Cave as my primary router.

In an AiMesh setup, I get fewer network dropouts from the Intel-based Blue Cave and speeds/ranges generally seem better. But, as one commenter posted, it does run awfully hot and really could use a USB fan if you fret over devices that are hot to the touch. The firmware for the Blue Cave also hasn't seen an update since April, whereas the 68U has seen several since then, including one very recently.

So: Six of one, half a dozen of the other. I think if I were pressed, I'd go with the regularly updated 68U.

Was hoping for better ASUS router deal during BF/CM than this or the 68U for $100 to link to my 86U for better coverage.

Stay away from the Blue Cave as it randomly drops Aimesh connectivity. I have 4 other Asus routers in my Aimesh configuration and the Blue Cave is the most unstable one among them.

P.S. Asus doesn't seem to be doing much with the firmware update on the Blue Cave either (last firmware update was 4/2019).

How was the range on that router? I got the Walmart bf deal too and I need it for a 2300 sqft home

Are you using Ethernet backhaul or wireless?

Wow reviews on Amazon are pretty horrible. I was just about to jump in but changed mind after reading those.

My Blue Cave has been the best router I have had, no dropouts, reliable and it really provides longer distance coverage on the numerous 34 devices (22 on wifi) I have. I purchased another via this deal to act as my mesh router. I am sold on the Blue Cave based upon my previous experience.

I had both a Blue Cave and rt-ac86u ac2900, used the Blue Cave as mesh router. The asus rt-ac86u was a piece of junk, had it serviced under warranty and they sent it back, one month later after firmware update, unit was inoperable again. Sent back again, they sent me another new router, that one died 6 months later. Received my third refurbished router, decided to sell it. During entire time ac86's were more at the asus service center, my Blue Cave acted as my sole router.
