Thanks for detailed explanation including that this is the newest model and also which specific battery and charger model # it comes with. (often the listings ignore that detail).

I have last year's version which I am satisfied with, and got as part of a promo with other set. Plus I have an M12 from a previous year. For someone looking for a multi-tool now, this is a great deal if also needing the battery and charger.

It is if you need to do things like plunge cuts to a certain depth, otherwise not really necessary. For example if you are notching something it can be handy. I have this kit and have never used it, even when doing stuff like outlets in drywall.

Never knew it existed 😂

But to be honest after a while you get a feel for the depth.

The only time I see it being useful is knee walls when you're dropping a kitchen island counter to one level.

But even then, similar to a reciprocating saw, you want room to rock the blade.

How does this compare to the $99 home Depot deal from a few weeks ago? This one has a 2ah battery vs 1.5ah, comes with some attachments, and is the DCS356B tool vs the DCS355(?) tool in the other kit

Yesterday's slickdeal from HD was the brushless variable speed with charger and battery, but without accessory kit for $99. Personally, I like the brushless variable speed version better than the 3 speed, but that's just preference. Either deal is pretty slick, imo.

This one is a slightly updated model with a speed selector. They both have variable speed triggers, this model just lets you set a top-end limit on the speed if you want. This kit also includes a bigger battery and the accessory kit.

Here is a run-down of the DCS356: https://toolguyd.com/dewalt-dcs35...ulti-tool/

This one is also variable speed (and brushless). The speed selector just limits the top-end speed when the trigger is fully depressed.

Oooh. I didnt notice the XD on it. I think I like this deal better now. Perhaps I'll cancel the HD order and grab this.
Thanks!

Thanks for the help from both of you! Since I already ordered the $99 kit, I will keep that one since it doesn't seem too different.

The advantage of the speed selector is that you don't have to try to maintain a consistent amount of pressure on the trigger while you're moving the tool around if you want any speed other than the fastest. For me this was a major improvement over the 355 design. (Of course you can still vary the speed further by trigger pressure if you need to.)
