T30 can have 4x3.5, 2x2.5 HHD if add extra PCI-SATA adaptor, how about T40? I care more about how many HHD it can connect to. As for most server use, CPU difference maybe not that big. Of course there is $50 difference.
Good info on the T30. If I wanted a Plex server running unraid that had 8 drive bays, could I get this T40 and move it to a bigger case? Or would that kill the value here

Technically so does T30, but the newer BIOS versions disable its use. If you can get (and want to run) older BIOS, you can do m2 on T30.

Of course I just bought the T30 yesterday Frown

Anyone have experience with Dell returns?
I returned this very same server when purchased for the same price a week ago after learning that though Windows 10 Professional can be installed, getting the correct drivers for an unsupported operating system would be a pain.

Offered me a full refund, but have not received it yet as the return package is still in transit.

I returned my T40 for a T30. Dell made the return process very easy and provided great customer service.

Any reason you went for the T30 instead of the T40?

T40 has less drive bays than T30. Not as many 3.0 SS USB ports. Overall, didnt have what I needed for my setup.

Is the m.2 slot disabled for an NVMe PCI-E SSD? Someone in the T30 thread said the T40 didn't have a usable slot for NVMe PCI-E SSD, but he may have been wrong. The T30 have to use older BIOS to use that m.2 slot.

Just have a chat with them... everytime something like this happens to me at dell, they always give u something back just to make you feel better(i guess).

Bought a 49" TV, it went on sale for $150 less(on amazon)... was given $75 back to keep the order.
Bought a monitor for $300, saw another deal for $200, was given $50 back for keeping the order.

they wont price match after the fact though. but at least it isnt a HUGE loss.

I run W10 Pro on the T30. All my drivers work. Which ones have problems?

There is a deal on a t140 also. But I'm between this to tinker with VM's and or Linux distros, file server, etc. Or the qnap or Synology nas that could run VM's.
