Any reason you went for the T30 instead of the T40?
Was there a restocking fee?

There is a deal on a t140 also. But I'm between this to tinker with VM's and or Linux distros, file server, etc. Or the qnap or Synology nas that could run VM's.
Where is the deal for T140?

Running a T30 with UnRAID for my Plex box. Before that I ran it on a T20 on Ubuntu server. Both are still going strong.

Can you use this for Plex only I got a lot of movies on hard drive.
Easily. What you are playing with? Trick is to get Roku or something such that your plex host does not need to transcode. Although this can do transcode.

Good info on the T30. If I wanted a Plex server running unraid that had 8 drive bays, could I get this T40 and move it to a bigger case? Or would that kill the value here
Dell or any other brand do not like this idea and make their boards such that fitting in other case would be pain.

Hi @Bd75, questions about your setup. You don't have drives in raid then right? Does this mb have a raid chip built in at all? It looks like it does not. Also I how many drives does your box hold and how many do you have installed?

That CPU is too weak for a server.

It has one m.2 slot

I'm 99% sure I remember someone stating it is disabled in the bios just like how it is on the later bios revisions of the t30. I have the T30 and was able to use an older bios revision to get the m.2 slot working but this was likely disabled in the initial bios revision for the T40 so you almost certainly won't be able to use it unless you can get a workstation version of this motherboards bios onto it somehow.

this is what i am wondering too. Why buy a QNAP or Synology over this? Way more power than those. Plus if you use plex, you can add a p2000 for transcoding. I don't see what this can't do those can. Anyone with more knowledge please chime in. Thanks. Peace

To start, the CPU is much more recent. E-2224G is out this year on May and T30 has CPU E3 1225 v5 which came out back in 2016.

4ish years ago I bought a TS140 with 1225v3 deal here on SD for $300. Sold off the cpu and bought a 1245v3 for probably at least $150. What's interesting is not much performance gained but you save $100 with this deal 4 years Later.

Box is still going strong for years 24/7 service. No reason to upgrade.
