I'd wait for the 29000 points for a year of Xbox live, equal to 4 months of ultimate. So 7250 vs 9000 points

I think your math is off. 18,000 points/3 months = 6,000 points per month.

Which is better than 7250 per month.

Or maybe I am missing something.

This is just 3 months of Game Pass, not Game Pass Ultimate so if you already have Ultimate then you only get 1 month of Ultimate with this deal for 18,000 points.... when 1 month of Ultimate usually only costs 12,000 points.

This is only a deal if you don't want & don't have Ultimate.

I used this as part of my 3-year full load + $1 ultimate conversion. Worked out really clean that way.

2 12-month + 1 month bonus = 26 months
1 3-month + 1 month bonus = 30 months
3 month game pass = 33 months
$1 3-month GPU conversion = 36 months

This is a deal because they took regular Game Pass away from Rewards. I don't need Ultimate, and I redeemed three months right before Gears 5 came out, so I was coming close to needing another three months. So this is perfect timing!

This actually converts to 2 months GPU.

They don't offer 1 year of Xbox live for Microsoft Rewards anymore. They have capped it at 3 months, if you click the drop down menu it only shows 1 and 3. In the past it showed more options I am very said and glad I bought 2 years of points before they changed this. 18,000 for 2 months of Ultimate might be the best deal now

Reading through the Game Pass to GPU conversions it seems the 3 month Game Pass converts to 50 days GPU vs the 12 month Game Pass converting to 4 months GPU. The 3 month conversions look like better deals.

With that wouldn't it be better to convert 5,250 points to a $5 Amazon gift card x 3 (15,750 pts) to get a 3 month Game Pass when they run the $15 specials and convert them into 50 day GPU?

You can basically get GPU for free or near free. You can always add in a cheap CDkey 12 month on occasion to top off.

They don't offer it regularly. However, they did offer one year of live on a hot deal 4 months ago, after they had taken it off of the regular list of options. So it may be back as a future hot deal.

As someone who has been doing bing searches for the past 6 years, they have never taken away the 1 year option. (Unless the hot deal sold out) Since Ultimate things have changed now and balancing points again. I remember Amazon Gift cards would equivalent to 4750 and they are hard locked at 5250. I hope you are right, and they offer it again. But it seems now it is almost equal to use it on Amazon than it is on Microsoft products ($15 Amazon + 2,250 points or 2 months of Ultimate)
