Doesn't seem worth getting a "new"Vive anymore, compared to the other options out there. There's a great summary list of the "Best VR Headsets" right here.

I'd much rather do the $200 the Valve Index method in there, than spend the same cash to get a Vive w/ the old wands. Thoughts?

I think the issue with that is you end up with 1.0 light houses. I sold my vive last October right before I moved. I am ready to by a new vr headset now and even in a fairly small area 9x7 the controllers would not track perfect. The spot where you would turn and the other lighthouse could then see that remote was always an issue. I now have 15x15 set aside so having 2.0 light houses that can be expanded from 2 to 4 is a huge selling point of the valve to me. In games like Onward any tracking issue is extremely frustrating.
