How does this compare to WD Black drives?

Oh, and Raptors.

(Am I dating myself?)
wd black is the loudest fking thing ever. Also it is better than every sshd on the market and is supposed to have the highest read and write speeds, but if you take into account that 2tb of the ebst wd black model is as much as 8tb of this drive and the 8tb toshiba would be faster than the 2tb wdblack and not sound like death. If you really need that extra performance, just get a ssd. Avoid a wdblack. Also this toshiba has many failures which is why the cost of the product has decreased. I wiuld not touch this harddrive either with a ten foot pole.

How long is the warranty?
That's what I want to know as well. But I guess the default should be 1yr right?

LOL, it's not quite *that* bad. ~$19/TB for this drive vs. $29/TB for the Black (sale prices).

So they offered to give you the FULL retail price of the drive with no pro-rating or depreciation? Guaranteed you could buy a new, larger drive with that return. Sorry the drive died but it does happen, to every manufacturer. I know I'd rather get the FULL retail price back in warranty that the refurbished drives that Seagate and WD will send you.
Where did you see me saying retail price? They paid me the what I paid minus the sales tax ($15 or so). That's is a scam, even if the sales tax was $1. The drive was only in second year.

Failing hard drive is not a pleasant event. When you top it off with scam= Toshiba never again and spreading the love.

Wd Black is still more expensive than it needs to be for it being a 7200rpm harddrive.

Stay away from Toshiba. Dead drive under 3 year warranty. Rma-ed it and they did not have same one any more, didn't offer me similar current model either. Instead, they said will give you prepaid card for your purchase amount which sounded like a great offer. Guess what - it was pre-tax amount. Scum bags.
Sounds like pretty good warranty coverage

And sounds like you didn't backup properly

Sounds like a dumb consumer that doesn't care what big corporations do to the marketplace.

The butthurt is strong with this one. There is no scam. They refunded the retail price of the drive. You just don't understand why they can't refund your sales tax. And guessing from your tone, I'm just gonna go out on a limb and assume that the failure was user error.

They did not refund me retail (close to $199) but the receipt price after discounts ($150 or so)

Because of consumers like you, that dont care about their wallet, we live in a era when devices are designed not to last long after warranty expiration and if that is not possible - planned obsolence via software manipulation (or pulling the plug on the mighty cloud).

Toshiba actually burned me close to $25 as they made me ship their failed drive. Plus the time wasted.
So yeah, keep giving up your money and call me whatever you want. And keep filling up the that land fill with that gadget you bought one or two black fridays ago. I will stand up for my hard earned dollar and priceless time.
