I think they use battery for backup in the event of a power failure on the wired model but will not function as a standalone on battery only all the time.

Note that it won't trigger the non-NEST units and it won't get triggered by the non-NEST units so it will not satisfy code requirements.

Buy regular wired ones and a Ring listener, Wyze as the secondary listener. Maybe one battery Nest for the fancy. I don't understand why people still buy wired Nest, you have to replace ALL.

This is true as you'll need to show inspection that all smoke alarms are connected and one goes off -- all of them goes off.

I have 7 of these on my house. Once the life cycle of the unit ends I'm not replacing them with another neat product. I loved them in the beginning but not have a lot of random problems with them.
