Sellout.Woot has Ticket to Ride: First Journey Board Game on sale for $13.99. Shipping is free w/ Amazon Prime or is otherwise a flat-rate $6 per order. Thanks CChoiVA
The amazon listing ($16.79[amazon.com]) says "Manufacturer recommended age 13 - 15 years" though I think 13+ year olds could handle the full TTR pretty easily. I assume this is for even younger players. Amazon reviews indicate it is good for 6-9 year olds.
I got TTR for my 6 and 8 year old and while they fully understand the turn process, the scoring, and some of the strategy, they still have a hard time finishing a whole game on a high note due to how long it takes. This version sounds pretty much identical to TTR except instead of complex scoring, its just the most tickets win (max of 6), and the train count to end the game is 20 instead of 45. I am definitely getting this, it sounds perfect for them.
Yes this is the simplified version targeted at younger kids. Box shows age 6+
Its a pretty good Junior level adaptation of the original.
Good game and good price.
My 4-8 year olds were able to all play it independently last Christmas when we got it. We still get a lot of use out of it a year later.
Just tried the adult version this week and while the first journey is a little random luck for the fun value to time ratio I'd say it's the superior game for any age although it'd maybe be a bit weird for a minute if it was all adults and you broke it out.
I have this and started playing with my 8 year old (now 9) He loves it . I think soon he will be ready for the full version but this game is a good intro and quicker games so kids keep focus. Average games done in 20-30 min.
excellent price and worth getting if you have kids 5-10.
