Having to run Ubuntu should give you the blues.
I like Ubuntu, and use it as my daily driver. But the point of this laptop is that you can go with Ubuntu LTS or install whatever you want on it--other flavors of linux or a clean installation of Windows 10. It's a good option compared to getting a laptop shipped with bloatware preinstalled.

What's soldered in and what is upgradeable?
RAM and Wifi are soldered. SSD is able to be upgraded.

Am I missing something here? This is super lackluster for a grand. Doesn't even have a dedicated GPU for people doing CUDA work, the memory is DDR3, RAM/SSD can't be upgraded, and the display is only 1080p. I'm a developer and I wouldn't buy this.

I agree that this is probably misnamed; i'd consider this more of a business-class Ultrabook type of notebook...for people always on the go, who need their computer

Agreed. But with 10% CB and $120 off makes it sub $800 if waiting for the cash back isn't an issue. That's a much better deal. Obviously you're still paying the XPS tax, but still.

I'm waiting a deal for the 7390 2 in 1 myself.

This is incorrect as I have MSI Premier 15 which has the same CPU but has DDR4, I just bought 2 sticks of them to upgrade to 32 GB. Dell probably chose to use DDR3 because it fits certain cost.
DDR4 is not the same as LPDDR4. LPDDR4 is soldered just like this LPDDR3 in this deal. It's likely a combination of power, availability and cost savings to go with LPDDR3. LP= low power.

I've bought Windows 10 Pro keys on eBay for as low as $2.50 and have never had an issue with activation and they still work to this day. In some markets (I.e. China), Windows 10 Pro is literally being sold for less than $3 to curb piracy. These same keys can work anywhere.
that's not true. In China a Windows 10 Home license is for sale at a high price which equals to 125 USD today. I never heard the price go down to $2.5 or something near that in the past years. Ebay cheap keys are likely either generated by keygen, or generated by enterprise group purchase. Either way is not legit.

If you want a 2in1 and don't mind spending $1300, keep the Costco one. The Costco one has much better graphics, slightly better CPU performance, LPDDR4, and most importantly it's a 2in1.

Overall, the Costco one is much better all around.

Thanks, looks like this 990 deal is nontouch screen. Yeah 2 in 1 is my main requirement. will better stick to Costco one.

It will stack. I have never had an issue unless using another affiliate site's coupon; this is a Dell coupon.
Thank you for this comment. I got my order in before the deal died.
