Chase 10% off Happy Holidays Gift Card from Chase Ultimate Rewards

-9 Deal Score

Just checked my Chase Ultimate Rewards and saw they have a 10% off (using rewards points. Example, $50 card for 4500 points) Happy Holidays Giftcard. Its for multiple merchants so it seems decent. It can be used at Macy's, Ulta Beauty, Chili's Grill & Bar, Red Lobster, Lowe's, P.F. Chang's or GameStop location in the US. The card is issued by happycards.com.

Not worth anything for the 10% of the third tie gift-card.

Pain to use on line as it is processed as prepaid visa card but with restricted vendor. Works well on Dell.com that you can have multiple payment method, otherwise, your order would have to be less than the balance as you cannot add a payment method. AmEx offers $15 on $100 and there is one for Dell, HomeDepot, and some other stores for guys.

I coincidentally just posted about these in another thread, buyer beware.
After looking around online about these i'm seeing a lot of bad experiences, i was going to get one but won't be now. See comments of this page at bottom for examples;

What kind of bad experience with a gift card from Chase? I get these every few months and over the last 10 years have never had a problem. The new cards with multiple stores are nice to have. Used the Lowes just last week I got in October.
I think you either use the points for discounted gift cards, or use them for a smaller amount of credit on a bill. Seems like a good deal, maybe not a "slick-deal" though.

Most folks use them for travel- where with the right card you get 1.25-1.5 cents per point in value minimum and potentially significantly more than that with point transfers.

This deal is just over 1.1 cents per point.

Which is much less value obviously.

Did not know that. After so long on slickdeals I have a lot to learn still. Will look into this as I want to get to Maui in February and have over $500 in points saved up. repped for the info

If you don't plan to travel for a while, it makes more sense to cash them out and invest it.

What can I invest in with a guaranteed on-demand 50% return....which is what I get (at a minimum, often more) on using UR points for travel instead of investment?

No you did not.

You said not travelling "for a while" meaning eventually they would travel. And be able to get a 50% return on the points versus taking them as cash.

So I asked where I can beat that 50% return reliably- even if it takes "a while"

No, you asked where you can get a guaranteed 50% return. I can be pedantic too.
