A re-up from the previous deal. Some orders from that deal were cancelled, FYI.

A summary of the important information regarding this player:

This x700 is the top recommendation from Wirecutter [thewirecutter.com]. They basically concluded that one would have to pay substantially more for any additional benefit in fidelity or functionality.
Supports Dolby Vision and most UHD steaming apps.
The most common issue with these is freezing during playback (when running either streaming apps or discs). The player will need to be unplugged to regain control. It is not clear how common this issue is, but it seems to happen occasionally or never, depending on the player. That said...
This refurb has a 90 day warranty. I would suggest you do some initial burn-in testing with discs and streaming to establish the quality of your refub.

I bought one after waiting for a deal on an x800 for about a year. I plan to test it out a bunch and return if necessary.

Edit: I will say that I ordered right after the previous deal was posted on 11/30, have received a FexEx tracking number, but the package has not entered their system as of Tuesday 12/3 in the PM.

I own this player. I've had it since July, and I have no complaints.

Thanks for the summary. So potentially, this could be customer returns from freezing issue. That's scary.

Last time I bought something from vipoutlet was a Lenovo smart display. I read that those sometimes have issues with wifi drops. I took a chance and ordered one and the condition was like new. But surely enough, it had wifi drop issues. Good thing is that they are good about returns.

I guess buying refurbs of a product that has known issues is a crap shoot, but there is a good chance customer returned it because of occasional freezing, and then it was retested to see that it is "working", but probably not tested long enough to see the issue.

Edit: wtf @ my broken comment?
Anywaaaay, Tl'Dr, this costs at least $275 less than any UB820 right now. Are you going to get that much more fidelity out of the Panasonic? Only if you have a setup of high enough quality that the only place to spend more is on a UHD player. Otherwise, spend more on a better TV/Receiver/Speakers/Cables/Chairs/Popcorn Machine?

The Panasonic is slightly better. This is ROCK BOTTOM on price and a bit of a gamble.

Tempting. I know I am moving up to 4K soon, but haven't decided if I am even going to bother with physical media this time around. Also PS5 will be out next year and Sony promised a UHD drive....

I mean I can't even rent 4K movies from Redbox or Netflix, so what is the point? I can buy streaming 4K cheaper than physical discs when on sale.

I dunno...

I am seriously considering buying this item but the item description does not state one way or the other if the remote is included. Maybe I just overlooked it...?

Good point about PS5. I guess I'll skip this to save for the PS5 fund. By the time I have enough 4K library, PS5 would probably be on sale anyway.

I have this. Don't bother with those reviews. If you just need a 4k Blu-ray player, this thing is all you need, it works well, nothing wrong with it. Since I have an NVIDIA Shield TV I do not use any of the other stuff on the X700.

Thanks op. Got with the Squaretrade 1-year refurb warranty.... that takes a lot of the risk of a refurb away for me.

With a $5 ebay coupon that popped up, my total including the $10 SQ warranty came to $72 shipped.

Should I add the 1-year protection plan from SquareTrade for $10.99?

Like is it worth it?

I feel that. At this point UHD physical media hasn't been adopted widely enough to cause any sort of market movement on players, and it probably won't. Just like with CD sales (or really sales of any physical media anymore), now that it can be streamed, most people won't bother with the annoyance of toting discs.
The counter to that argument is that, at this point (and for the next several years at least), UHD streaming doesn't hold a candle to physical media in terms of fidelity -- especially when it comes to audio and fast motion video. But you're really only going to notice that difference with certain movies, and on higher end setups.

All that said, right now some UHD/BR/Digital physical media is the same price or cheaper than buying the same content digitally. The recent Apocalypse Now deal is a good example of that -- the 6 disc UHD/BR package was substantially cheaper than either digital or BR by itself.

As for PS5, I feel the same way, but the likelihood is that it will cost 8-10x this at launch. I don't play console games enough to justify that much of a bump, especially waiting at least a year from now..

And lastly, if the sky falls, Vudu shuts down, or Xfinity screws us all with data caps, physical media will still work.

Maybe not if the sky falls.
