Newegg [newegg.com] has the G.SKILL 2x8GB DDR4 2666 MHz SODIMM Laptop RAM for $49.99 with free shipping. This is the lowest price per 2666MHz 8GB SODIMM that I've seen recently. It's also CL18 which is slightly lower than the usual CL19.
This is well rated in this review [tomshardware.com] at Tom's Hardware.

I ordered a set for my HP 14-dq1033cl with i5-1035G4 that I got at Costco.

Btw guys, they also have for the same price for a cl16 2400mhz kit. That is if your laptop supports only up to 2400mhz, like mine does. This 8GBx2 kit has better cas latency. Same price:

16gig kits have gotten cheaper, but 32gb kits of decent speed/latency are stalled (no more price cuts, pricing is still ymmv with smaller resellers NOT PASSING ALONG ANY OF THE RECENT PRICE CUTS) and in very short supply. btw, generally talking about desktop ram

Can it work with a lenovo y540 17" rtx 2060 ? because i intend to buy it with 8gb ram and replace it with either 2x8 or 2x16 but i am afraid it won't work cuz of speed, latency or clock diff
Thanks

2x8GB will give better performance as all the ram will work in dual channel. That might be offset by having more RAM overall if what you're working on does not fit in the 16GB though.
The first 8 in a 16+4gb config, would running dual.
And why anyone would attempt a 16+4gb setup??

Any standard speed label should refer to JEDEC SPD, not xmp.
xmp is something extra for overclock easy setup. usually store clock info out of JEDEC spec. For laptop memory, xmp may exist but it is no important. motherboard will read from JEDEC SPD and all labelled speed should be here.
So this won't be the best option for the i5 from costco? I don't know anything about this stuff

I wonder if this will work in the Asus gaming laptop I picked up from another deal on here. It only came with 8GB.

I think Wow and Dota don't need 20 Gb ram . But if u want it is ok . U can try to upgrade ur video card.
Agree on this. Upgrading video card > upgrading RAM for heavy games.

Is it better to put in 1x 16GB +4GB ram it came with in the Costco HP laptop or 2x 8GB?

Plan to do light gaming like WoW and DotA 2 other than regular websurfing.
better do 16*2 rather than regret later Smilie

N00b question here. After some quick googling, my laptop bios only supports up to 2400mhz. Will this work? Will it just downclock itself to the speed the mobo allows on the laptop? I'd like my ram to work properly, and not have to return this.

Edit:
So after some more googling. I see this review, and according to the listing in cpu-z, the 2666mhz linked has a 2400mhz jedec listing. So I'm good??
Yes you are right

Cheap Costco HP came with 4gb stick. You could buy this brand of ram 16x1 stick for $55 and add it to your 4gbs. Or just buy the 2x8 and use the 4 stick to cut mad rails.

Toot. Toot.

This is SO-DIMM, laptop memory, and the one the guy you responded to posted is 32GB total (2 x 16GB), the ones you posted are 16GB total (2 x 8GB).
