Any opinions on these specs. CPU benchmark is 8402. Full hd is a must on 17" screen so that's nice. And I like the design of these TUF laptops. It actually won't be used for gaming, mostly HD video watching (ie gopro footage), editing, and basic web browsing etc.

But is 8gb enough? Upgradable RAM?
Also what about the display, it says "17. 3" FHD (1920x1080) IPS type display"

I'm not sure about the CPU but 8GB is low for video editing I believe.

Too lazy to upgrade my laptop, but 8GB works fine in all the video editors installed. The dGPU doesn't need system RAM like an iGPU, so more RAM is available. For art design 8GB would be a joke.

As for gaming, the 560x is similar to a 1050TI.

Best Buy has offered the Asus Tuf FX705DT DR7N8 Ryzen 7 3750H with the GeForce GTX 1650 GPU version for slightly more. Currently, they have it for $699 on eBay and online but the price has been as low as $650 new. I purchased 3 of them over the last few months with one being a Geek Squad Certified Open Box for $600 a week ago and it was flawless. It has a much better configuration and performance then this model. And to be honest - even at the current $699 it's not a bad deal. I'd opt for one of their current Asus Tuf FX705DT DR7N8 OPEN BOX for only $636 over this one from Microsoft.

Deal still active?

Any other feedback? I'm looking for a 17" for son who's off to college next year. He goes casual gaming but I prefer gaming laptops as the build/keyboard/screen are usually better quality than non gaming laptops.

I have my old 17r2 Alienware gaming laptop that's 4 years now and still running like a champ.

Looks like still active from MS store. Also is $50 more on amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/R5-3550H...r=8-3&th=1

Good deal! I wish I needed the 17". I'm looking at the 15.6" for similar reasons (I don't game, but "gaming" laptops seem like better built, good hardware, usually upgradable)

Trust Asus but need 17" with quickness for multitasking Photoshop and illustrator with win 10 pro. Buying for longevity also. No need for gaming machine focused on 3d/fps, but if possible any 2k display setup. Durability and reasonable prices as plus.

I got the laptop 3 days ago and so far, love it for $500. Very bright clear 17" screen and the SSD is fast enough.

However, the touchpad area is a freaking dust/oil magnet. My laptop looks like it's 2 years old. Not sure if it's the plastic casing or whatever.

Anyone found any easy remedy for this? I'm thinking perhaps to get a clear "bra" or sticker or something to cover it up ...

What's with all of these laptops with 8 gigs of ram? I'd be interested at 16.
