We paid a local business with a check for services done last summer.
The check was cashed soon after the work was done.

The check was cashed again about 6 months later. We contacted the company and they said "Oops, we made a mistake, we'll send you a check"

The check never came. I called them on it and they hung up on me and refuse to answer any correspondence.

I let my bank know, and they refunded the money.

A couple days ago, the check was cashed for a THIRD time.
I contacted my bank and they are going to refund the money again.

They were able to give me the routing number where the check was cashed - 074909962 - which a Google search reveals is Chase Bank, NA.

I reached out to Chase Bank and they couldn't care less about this fraudulent activity.
I reached out to the police department where the business is located. They also couldn't care less.

Any suggestions who might give a $hit about this fraudulent scumbag that I can report him to?

How does someone cash\deposit the same check multiple times? You would think the bank the check was drawn from would not process a check number that it had seen before.

That said, at a min I would put a stop payment on that check number to stop it from happening again. As to who to report it to, try your state's department of banking or consumer affairs and\or attorney general's office. There has to be an office responsible for check fraud and there has to be an office responsible for handling fraud complaints against businesses. You can also file a complaint with the BBB against the business just as a matter of principle to maybe affect their overall rating.

Also file a police report on it as it is check fraud imo as you likely need to document it. Whether anything actually gets done about it is dubious at best, esp. if the amount of the check was fairly small. In most areas, prosecutors are not going to waste their resources or time going after petty check fraud unless it is a part of larger criminal activity or a recurring problem with a particular business or individual imo.

so how would they cash a check 3 times when they gave the first check to the teller?
It's fraud if they are reprinting the check. They don't get the original check back
BBB
I would go to my bank and tell them i think there is fraud/identity theft going on..don't call

bulb save money by checking your insurance every 2 years (and not every 20) Thanks Liberty Mutual for reminding me to shop. The $842 increase this year sums it up. Across the board increase for Ohio....whatever

More than likely, they are doing it via the horrid mobile banking by taking a picture of it.

file a police report, pretty sure that's a felony in most states.
