Great price, I just wish it was the 18v LXT model.

That would be slick indeed. But this is about 2 lbs lighter so there is that.
12v weighs 4 lb 3 oz with 4ah battery
18v weights 5 lb 8 Oz with battery

As someone who has plenty of Makita 18v tools and 18v batteries, I'm guessing if purchasing this, I would also have to purchase 12v batteries? I Wonder if they make an adapter like DeWalt seems to have. If not, would the chargers from 18v kits work on the 12v batteries?

Don't think so. 12 cxt battery requires a different connection/charger

Not true, Dewalt has a 18V stempack to 20V slidepack battery adapter. 20V is the same thing as 18V (20v is just marketing to make it look like it's a higher voltage when it's not) so all it's doing is making slidepack batteries work on older stempack battery tools. It's not changing the voltage at all.

No brand has a 12v to 18V adapter or vise versa.

Luckily for you though is that if you do plan on getting 12v Makita tools, they do have a dual voltage 12v and 18V charger https://toolcraze.net/makita-dual...er-dc18re/

I got excited then realized it wasn't the LXT 18V. Frown Probably a good deal though if you have this system.

Tools don't run on 12V, toys do. It may be lighter and cheaper than 18V but it will be discharging very quickly and slowing down in any harder or thicker material that will lead to rough cut and may lead to edge discoloration.

It will do well in craft applications for sure, should be more quiet and have less vibration than Harbor Freight equivalents.

I'm probably the only guy on here that was hoping this was the electric version when I clicked the link. Maybe next time...
