Budget friendly AV receiver

97 77 December 6, 2019 at 07:24 AM
I'm looking at setting up home theater in the basement. I have some energy connoisseur speakers in storage from my old house. 2 floor standing 2 bookshelf a center and a 12" sub.
My old denon I bought with the speakers I gave to my brother in-law. It didn't have hdmi and we never hooked it back up when we moved to our current residence.
Any home theater pro's have any suggestions on a unit to go with my current speaker set up?
I would like to be able to voice control with Alexa.
Thanks

I guess these forums are not good for these types of discussions

You might do well to go with Denon again. The HEOS feature is Alexa compatible, and gives you the ability to control the AVR via Alexa voice commands. HEOS is an add on for Denon's lowest price receivers. You might look at the AVR-X1500H, which is a 7.2 unit.

If you don't mind a factory refurb with a shorter warranty:

Also, think about the space you'll be deploying this in, and consider whether or not Dolby Atmos might be in your future. If you're on a strict budget for now, it may be a future consideration that's at least worth planning for.

Your speakers don't require anything particular. What are your video requirements? 4k? What display are you using? Are you planning to add speakers? Atmos?

I'm using my old 60" plasma tv. Just looking for a decent budget friendly receiver that won't cost much. I don't think my ears can tell the difference between Atmos or no Atmos.

Pretty much any entry level receiver should work. I believe almost all Denons support Alexa out of the box.
