The black only comes with 256GB or larger SSD. It's highly unlikely that the black will be sold new at this price unless there's still inventory around when a newer model comes around, which probably won't be for a year or so.
I bought this bc the price is great for this time of year. I don't think the Surface Laptop 2 128GB version was selling at this price until May or June of last year.

Tempting. Has anyone used stock Ubuntu on this one?
Why not the $350 Motile?

You must be joking right?

While this is the lowliest configuration, this machine is made by Microsoft and a solid 1 year warranty from Microsoft. From my experience, if you bring it to the store during warranty period with tiny issue, they will swap it with new one (at least this is what it was before). $350 Motule is money thrown away.

I considered this machine but cancelled my order for these reasons:
Wide bezels, large in dimensions, lacking TB3

It's significantly wider than XPS due to the screen ratio:

Surface Laptop 3 13.5"
12.1" x 8.8" x .57" (308 mm x 223 mm x 14.5 mm)

XPS 7390:
Front 11.88 x 7.84 x 0.31 in (301.76 x 199.24 x 7.80 mm)
Rear 11.88 x 7.84 x 0.46 in (301.76 x 199.24 x 11.63 mm)

Test it at your local store if you can, or watch some YouTube videos to see you like it.

anyone compare this to xps 13? any noticeable plus/minus?
I just got my XPS 13 and it's a much smaller footprint than the Surface 3. I would say the screen on the Surface 3 feels much bigger. I didn't like the ratio though on the Surface 3. Both are solid laptops. I think XPS has longer battery life.

There are 3rd party Bluetooth keyboards without the Alcantara.

...
I'd probably hate to be carrying around an extra keyboard to Starbucks or something.

Wondering the same, I have that Envy for $200 extra idk if it worth the trouble.

Although the screen on the surface does feel bigger and more of a square shape than the wide screen size on every other laptop.

Have you done a hands-on of the $245 (R3) or $349 (R5) Motile? I HAVE - both - and imho, you are flat wrong on the "money thrown away". Value for the $, these are incredible. So many pluses - Ryzen 3/5 cpu with dedicated gpu; easy to upgrade RAM & storage; a 2nd slot for 2nd M.2 ssd; 14" FHD display in a 13" footprint; 2.5 lbs.; USB 3.1 & USB-C; HDMI-out. Main two downsides: single-channel RAM and product/tech support is new, but is now available.

I've owned two Lenovo Yoga 900 series, and was actually shopping new LG Gram, Asus ZenBook, and Lenovo 730S...that is, until I came across these Motiles. I think I'll get three happy years out of the R5 and, at $349, that will be a GREAT deal. Imho, these Motiles rank with Costco's $279 HP i5-10th gen as the best laptop deals this season.

Has this deal expired? I don't see the check-box to make it $699. I am logged in to my Best Buy account.

Great deal.. I've had the Surface Laptop first generation for about 2 years now, it's been an almost perfect laptop and the alcantara still looks like new. I'm on the fence on upgrading. I've got the I5 7200u/4gb/128gb. The new processor doubles the speed in passmark from 5k to 10k score.. double the memory to 8gb and the iris graphics would be several times faster. Still not having any issues with what I have...... hmmm. I think mine would sell around $300+

For $699 this. Unless you have youthful eyes and you need the note taking ability.
