I always thought the rubber solid tires would be for a more comfortable ride… But I suppose you risk getting a flat at the same time.

Can you put two pneumatic tires on this instead?
This, the Xiaomi M365, has pneumatic tires. I was inquiring with bazazzz whether his new Segway ES3, with non pneumatic tires, felt durable on crummy city streets.

So in terms of the lineup for these things.

The M365 is the original one that got everything started, so lots of love for it. Good modding opportunities if you want to add a dashboard or accessories.

The Pioneer is supposedly a stripped down version - reviews are sparse. To this day haven't seen anyone comprehensively test the range on it. I just bought one, am hoping for somewhere between 8-10 miles. Advertised range is off for most scooters, or so I hear.

The ES3 is the same model as the ES1, with an extra battery. The deal for $350 a while back was great, but playing roulette if you actually got refurbished, and not one full of dirt (sadly). Hard tires on this one, which means no flats, but a rougher ride. It also has little suspension which adds to the roughness.

I've read, but not seen myself, that some Costco's have it for $500 in person vs $520 online

Thanks OP, had been waiting for the black-colored version to go below $300, in for one. This is a pretty great deal IMO for this scooter, surprised it's not FP yet.

Whoa, the Segway EX max? I stand corrected. How is that not front page?

I doubt it. The ES3 is $519 after $80 online. I don't the ES Max would come below that.

Telling you now, don't do it to yourself. You would think changing a tire would be easy on a scooter.. nope. The design is so frustratingly bad you'll wish you saved $300.

My question is how do I buy one of the used Bird/Lime/Lyft/etc scooters? New batteries and should be good as new.
there are board kits on ebay that lets you repurpose those scooters...if you can find a lost/used lot to buy from, then all you need is one of those kits to turn it into your own

How hard would it be to set up my own scooter rental service (a la bird/lime) ..with one of these? my local college banned them ,so I'm hoping to capitalize on their absence

After going through a reno, I learned something very valuable about having the right tool for the job. I spent so much effort and wrist strength using the incorrect saw blade or tool. As soon as I used the right tool, the job was a breeze.

The "right" tools to replace these scooter tires are trigger clamps and bicycle tire levers. Because the main problem is that when you get one part of the tire on the rim and start pushing on the other side, the first part comes out. The clamps will keep the side of the tire that you first put on stay on the rim. There's a video on YouTube. You'll be shocked how easy it slides in. A little bit of grease on the rim and you're good to go. It's still harder than replacing a bike tire but not as impossible as so many people find it.

https://youtu.be/erkiIxc2XfE

(In the video, he uses a plier wrench to pinch the tires and then a zip tie to lock the wrench. Not ideal because the pliers can puncture the tires. Whereas with my trigger clamps, the surface is rubber and flat and you do not need zip ties.)
