YouTube with ads is free. Why would someone pay for this ?
My 4 year old has been using this service for a year and never uses the YouTube app. He loves all the books and apps it provides. We love it.

That TED Talk is really old, Youtube Kids has cleaned up their system a lot.

Our 3 year old uses YouTube Kids, but it is only a reward/treat for less than an hour. It's amazing how they figure things out.

Despite me never showing her how to work the UI, she's figured out how to scroll through videos, tap the UI to get the pause button to show up. Pause videos. Change videos.

We do monitor what she watches. Mainly Blippy, which is basically a learning and less rape-y version of PeeWee Herman.
Bli...ppi... Blippi. I personally have a hard time with him but the way he teaches seems to work. My lo also watches Dave and Ava.

I just have single kid access for $2.99/mo currently. If I cancel that, will this then be eligible? Probably not worth my time for $8

I have just one kid and did this same three month family sub (on sale) back in July when our first year that came with the tablet it auto-renewed for $7 or whatever a couple times before I set it to cancel auto renew and then just now did this new sub for $.99 and have already cancelled auto-renew.

Woohoo! More screen time for your kids!

It's great for my kids that other people purchase things like this for their kids. Those kids will be won't be much competition, and will end up working for my kids.

Are you Amish? When your kids go for Rumspringa chances are they won't come back, even though you sound like a real joy.

I find it amazing that people are willing to outsource to Amazon the determination of what content is appropriate for their children.
I certainly wouldn't advise letting your kids romp around on Free time, or any other platform, un-checked. That said, we've had FreeTime for 3 years and have never once had an issue with age innaproppriate games or content. It doesn't hurt that theres no YouTube app on it, but I can honestly say they do a solid job of keeping it "PG" with the games and content. Microsoft & YouTube, on the other hand...holy h**l. We ended up having to block YouTube altogether because of faked kids content, and MS can't see to keep pedos out of Roblox. The Roblox situation sucks, bc my son loves it and is a fantastic level designer, but it's online only and the creeps know what words they can/can't use to get around filters. If you think your kid isn't at risk, watch the chat log in any popular Roblox game room for an hour. There's a lot of sick puppies that need to be put down in this world...

Back to the OP; thanks! Great deal :-)

What I HATE about FreeTime is that it forces parents to blacklist what they don't want their kids to see rather than whitelist the ones they do. It's a feature that parents have been asking for years, but Amazon refuses to budge except by providing the most convoluted methods. In other words, if I don't want my little kid inundated with thousands of games, apps, and books I need to go in and block them, one by one. In some cases it takes me hours to to through them—and then weeks later Amazon adds more that I have to go through again.

I deal with it because I like the handful of apps and books that are useful, but it's a royal pain to weed out all the crap and time-wasting ones. I would have expected better from Amazon's UX team, but I sense in this case they were told to implement a crappy UX to try to get more kids more addicted to more games for kids whose parents don't have time to sift through every one.

Nope, just a school administrator. We see the differences between kids who have parents who use screen time as a babysitter/pacifier and those that don't.

I don't care too much about your kids, so if you're one of those parents it gives my kids another leg up. It's all good.
You sound like an awesome school administrator. Seems your kids may have a leg up because their helicopter dad is their school administrator. Not because they weren't allowed to watch a tablet for a couple hours a week. Administrators like you are part of the problem with the school system. All you care about is your own selfish interests rather than actually being interested in bettering children for the greater good. But I'm sure your kids will be a delight!

Of course it ends on December 25th. As a lot of people would have received their devices for Christmas and activated them that day. Both of my kid's Fires 1 year plan ends on Christmas Day...

Hey, the information is out there for parents who care. I'm not here at SD to educate your kids—or you. Maybe take some responsibility for that yourself?

I know, I know... it's too hard.

Unfortunately parents will make any and every excuse of why it is okay or how if they do not use it how they will be left behind or you can't keep them from everything...etc. Then they get mad and snowflake out on you when you call them out.

It is an excuse.
Schools are now getting rid of computers in most classroom as they are seeing they are a detriment to the learning environment and are seeing grades suffer. But go ahead if you think your child is different from every other child and see how it turns out in 15 years.

As for this product they need a feature that allows you to only push thi gs to it and not open everything to the child. Flashcards yes, games no. Books that reflect my values, yes. Books that reflect Amazons values, no way in cyber burning inferno.
