This looks like a great price for a quality immersion blender. IMO, immersion blenders are in the top five (if not #1) of great kitchen gadgets. So fast, useful, easy to store, and clean. For most purposes they replace regular blenders. I just bought the Kitchenaid 2561 for $60, but this Braun is pretty interesting (400 watts and that "bell"). Bamix are great too but costly, and I don't think they handle ice as well for smoothies/margaritas/protein drinks.

What do you use them for? I don't typically use a blender unless I'm making a smoothie (everything comes out too finely chopped)

I use mine mainly for hot things such as soups and sauces. Anything that would be a pain to transfer from a pot to a blender and then risk the blender top popping off because of the hot liquids

Kitchen aid is also $29.99, is this better than Kitchen aid?

Smoothies, protein shakes, margaritas (probably the best use). Oatmeal banana 2 ingredient cookies (just to mash the bananas). Homemade mayo, whipping cream. Marinara in the summer when canning. Making hot sauce. Soups and sauces in general. Making homemade salad dressing. Pretty much anything I would do in a stationary blender. Smoothing out lumpy gravy.

They're probably a horse-a-piece for most uses. I would probably give the Braun a shot with the 21 speed settings, 400 watts, and the bell, but there's nothing wrong with the Kitchenaid. The Kitchenaid may have a more rugged blade for blending drinks with ice.
