Awww... any tricks to get the $112 back if you bought last week? Without returning and rebuying... I've returned enough lately - starting to feel guilty.

FWIW, I bought a Optoma hd27e ($400) and this (@$800). I'm returning the Optoma (actually 2 optomas... had a replacement shipped to see if the first one was noisier than normal).

For the money, the Optoma is still a great unit. It is very similar to many of the $400 1080p models out there I'm sure. My main gripe was the high pitched whine from (I believe) the color wheel. I couldn't deal with that. I could manage to deal with fan noise, and the picture was decent for the money, and it fit my room fine.

While it's hard to justify that this is 2x better (or 75% better in this case), it is much better. The fan is quieter, but more importantly the picture is just better. Better colors, darker blacks, and motion seemed better - although this could be my imagination. You still hear the fan plenty though. A little quieter than the Optoma, but without the annoying whine noise at all.

Biggest gripe (besides $$) is the auto-iris thing. It makes a faint annoying noise - like a mechanical hard drive head moving, if you can remember those. I might not hear it once it's mounted on the ceiling, and not on a table next to me... but for now, I have to turn it off because it irritates me. Personally I couldn't tell a difference with it anyway in some brief testing though, so I'm OK with it.

It feels like a Thomasville oak dining room table compared to the Optoma feels like a plastic folding card table from walmart. But I guess that doesn't really matter - if the picture is good, it's good.

Yeah, this projector is from late 2013, and "only" 1080P, but the contrast is amazing for the price.
Comes with a 2 year warranty from Epson and has very forgiving lens shift to simplify placement. Lamps are cheap too.

If you have good light control in your projection area, the picture should be quite good compared to the 4K ViewSonic projectors also on Woot today.

You can probably email Woot and see what they say about price adjust. Can't hurt. Just keep in mind the 14% coupon is today only.

Oh tempting. I need the lens shift. But my 8345 is still working... And I don't have the cash... Ugh. Here's hoping it pops up again after the new year.

It may. Mine is not expected to be received until January (le sigh).

Still a damn good projector. I've had mine for about a year now brought a replacement lamp for 20 dollars. Picture is excellent even in moderate lighting

The Epson is better... It's brighter and has better contrast. It also handles ambient light better. Also, lamps are cheaper for the Epson and it looks better in eco mode (lamp saving). That being said, the Epson 2150 is the one I'd go with unless you really need the motorized lens in the 5030UB... other than that, they are the same.

This projector was around $2K when it was popular in 2014/16. This is a true hometheater projector and well very suited to light controlled rooms compared to lower end Epson where they are really bright

Also contrast on this project is amazing

Do these come directly from Epson? What "condition" do these refurbs usually come in? Considering upgrading my benq ht2050. I'd like a brighter image and better contrast. My room is a semi-light controlled living room. Current BenQ is about 12' from 100" screen. I sit about 14' from screen.

They are sold by Woot, but does not say if they ship from Epson (but very well may due to the long processing time). The condition is hard to predict, but most say they are good from other threads I have read. The support reputation with the warranty is two sided. On the positive side people rave about how responsive Epson support is and easy to deal with, fast shipping. On the negative side people have reported "multiple returns" to work through issues with projectors, dust blobs, lamp issue, power and ports.

From all my reading on AVS on the 5040ub returns, I think it's worth a shot, as Epson does not accept returns but Woot should. If you get an absolute dud or hate the picture, can rerun to Woot in 30 days.

Mine from the last deal from Epson was very well packaged. Nothing about it would have tipped me off that it was refurbished and not new if I didn't already know.
