Kind of like asking what's the best car for people who drive, people have their own preference and there isn't specifically a "best" one.

Ugh. Obviously I know nothing about gaming. I wanted to get a new one for my son and hoped there would be some advice. Thanks

Now we're getting somewhere, if you can provide more details, you can probably get more meaningful advice (price range, wired/wireless, what sort of games he typically plays, any interest in shiny lights that don't do anything...)

Logitech G502 HERO is your best choice here. Excellent and well priced wired mouse for gaming.

Here's a little more comprehensive info:

That being said, the G502 is fantastic, I don't think you can go wrong there.

i picked up the Razer DeathAdder Elite for 25 bucks from amazon. feels good, replacing a 15 year old microsoft optical one. haven't actually been using it because i need to get the sensitivity adjusted to match the old mouse.

I remember the first Logitech mouse I got with buttons to adjust DPI settings on the fly, middle setting was fine, and I have no idea when I would have ever used the one that was vastly less sensitive or the one where twitching the mouse slightly sent the cursor clear across the screen.

I only use 2 of the 3 DPI settings and had to adjust both to preference between FPS gaming and dual screen browsing.
