If you have an older vehicle without factory backup camera then this could be useful. While there are so many various types available, I needed something super easy to install under 10 minutes and no tools required (only tool you need is a screwdriver).

I found this in Costco which seems a good solution. No wiring needed, no drilling and it works.

Features:
12V/24V Backup Camera
Expansive 160 Degree Rear View
HD Touchscreen Monitor with Night Vision Viewing
Integrated Solar Panels Recharge Camera
Adjustable Parking Assist Lines Feature

This is a wider screen. I only purchased one camera and monitor set, however Costco also sells standalone camera license frame for add-on second camera. So it is possible to add both front and rear camera in your SUV.

Link for add-on camera - https://www.costco.com/add-on%2c-...05008.html

I read in reviews that some drivers add this to front license plate of vehicle (allows them to see in front of bumper, specially when off-roading) as they already have backup camera from factory.

Either way this is reasonably priced option for people who can't do complicated installation by themselves, and can't pay $$ to third party installers.

The frame camera can be charged before installation and then has solar panel which pretty much keeps it charged for months. People use power bank to charge under rare circumstances if sun is not available for months.

Here is a video for installation.

Thanks for the post. How do you connect the camera to a power source? Can I do it or I need an electrician to do it ? Also, is there any way not to use the cigarette lighter adapter (I have only two ports in my car and both are occupied). Thx.

Camera is wireless which you install using license plate screws. Has inbuilt battery that you charge fully before installation. Then after it has solar panels which keeps it charged. Some reviewers say they haven't had charging issues in a year.

Now in order to be able to watch, you need a screen. That is second part. It goes on your dashboard or windshield and uses 12V charger.

When you turn on the car, monitor starts. It goes to sleep after selectable pre-adjustable time (I have it on 60 seconds).

When you put car in reverse, just wave your hand 🖐 in front of monitor and it comes back to life and displays camera input.

Pretty neat concept. See this video to understand this better.

Hope it helps!

It comes with one camera and yes, it connects to monitor wirelessly.

This monitor supports two camera if you need to, purchase standalone camera add-on from Costco.

Also, you can purchase something like this for your preoccupied 12V adapters.

Here you go Sir.

https://www.costco.com/add-on%2c-...05008.html

Again, only purchase if you are planning for both front and back camera. The original link comes with one monitor and one camera and this second link is for an add on camera.

Also on a side note: Costco has generous return policy so if you try and if that doesn't work for you, you can always return.

Just curious, which type of car do you drive? Good luck! 👍🏼

Dash camera and backup camera serve different purposes. Putting this in the front does not make sense. If you want dual channel dash cam, get one for that purpose. Many of them have the backup camera function as well. This one is solely for backup camera. It is a hit pricy but easy to install. The quality is so so though. I have installed 6 dual channel dash cam with three that have backup camera mounted above the license plate. It took one to two hours to install one set depending on the car model. It is not 10 minutes installation, but you only need to do it once.

Dash cam + backup cam sound like a winning combination. any particular models you had good experiences with? are there features i should look out for and what to skip? thanks! Wave

Aukey has one on sale, I didn't bought it as I don't have time to install. If you are one of those lucky guys who can drill holes in car and mess with car electrical, it is certainly a good option. See review before you decide to buy.

Could put it in the front to make sure you can fit into tight parking spots without hitting the car in front of you lol

Or those Range Rover and Jeep crowd for off-roading. Useful to see in front of the bumper due to big blind spot because of bonnet/hood, engine compartment area.

The jury is out on this brand new DRA3 model. I'd wait. The earlier DRA2 was crappy, but this has 1080p in both cams; the precursor had just 720 rear and didn't work very well.
