Solid router. I've installed several of these at different locations. All of them still running great. Never had any firmware upgrade issues

I am primarily interested in range; I have two Ring cameras outside that have very weak connections now. How is this? (I now have a Linksys E3000 that is about 8 years old.(

I have this router installed at my house and my friend's house. His is bigger around 3000sq and never reported a problem to me. I've never had a problem either but I can tell the range isn't really great as I get slow connection around certain parts of my yard. But again works great for 2-3000 sq ft 2 story homes.

With DD-WRT on the Nighthawk, this things amazing and one of the best routers out there.
And when I bought the R7000, it was a deal with a cable modem bundle and it's MUCH better than the ripoff one TW (And other cable companies) rents you for 4-6 bucks a month.
Better antennas for the two 2.4 antenna for 30 bucks (The center antenna is 5ghz and switching it doesn't make a difference so you just need 2). MUCH better than the stock antennas.

Because I've learned over the years to NOT go cheap with stuff like antenna. The antenna I went with are great for the price. The cheap Amazon ones are cheap for a reason.

The Nighthawk's only downside is it's size, it's around that of an iPad lol. But this beast can also be OC'd, so expect this to raise your router expectations in the future.

If you ask me DD-WRT is a MUST since it's constantly updated, the community is super helpful and most important it gives the option to add a built in adblocker in Privoxy to every PC on the network. This way there's no need to set up a custom hosts file on each device.

And select a wireless channel after installation, DO NOT USE AUTO CHANNEL, otherwise it will not use wide channel setup and you will be limited to only 72mbit. Also, change channel width to WIDE and enable UPnP in NAT settings.

Both routers have 4/5 star reviews with many saying the connection drops. I still have an old N router so I want an upgrade but I am hesitant due to the bad reviews. Is the AC2200 any more reliable?

Probably the same with more speed. Also 4-5 star reviews is quite good

I have had this router for over a year, running this firmware and set up to run through vpn. Works fabulously. No issues.....like not even a hiccup. (crap...knock on wood)
