For the LT1000P, all the generic filters are only certified for ANSI 42. The LG Filter is certified for ANSI 42, Ansi 53 and Ansi 401. I am not sure about the other models.

NSF/ANSI 42
Filters are certified to reduce aesthetic impurities such as chlorine and taste/odor. These can be point-of-use (under the sink, water pitcher, etc.) or point-of-entry (whole house) treatment systems.

NSF/ANSI 53
Filters are certified to reduce a contaminant with a health effect. Health effects are set in this standard as regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Health Canada. Both standards 42 and 53 cover adsorption/filtration which is a process that occurs when liquid, gas or dissolved/suspended matter adheres to the surface of, or in the pores of, an adsorbent media. Carbon filters are an example of this type of product. Examples include Cryptosporidium, Giardia, some heavy metals (e.g., lead, pentavalent arsenic, mercury), pesticides, herbicides, benzene, MTBE, radon, trihalomethanes and PCBs. It can be used in conjuction with reverse osmosis technology (certified under Standard 58) to remove additional contaminants.

NSF/ANSI 401
Treatment systems for emerging contaminants include both point-of-use and point-of-entry systems that have been verified to reduce one or more of 15 emerging contaminants from drinking water. These emerging contaminants can be pharmaceuticals or chemicals not yet regulated by the EPA or Health Canada.

Sears (sold by west beech) has LT500 for $50 for a pair. What is the difference between those and buying directly from LG?

Buyers beware. Lots of fakes out there. Don't know too much about west beech. If sears had sold it, the filters are most likely genuine. But I wouldn't trust a third party seller. Especially for something your family would ingest.

I agree with you. Although the picture on sears website shows a genuine LT500P but the product received is nothing like it. I have filed for return. I am going buy from this deal. Thanks dhau001

You did the right thing. Product not matching the displayed pic does not inspire confidence. Not worth jeopardizing the health of your family to save a few bucks.

If you are going with generic, I highly suggest AmazonBasics.

Materials may be exactly the same, but the seller response to any issues such as leaks and water damage will not be the same lol.
Amazonbasics is the way to go. Those filters are certified and backed by amazon. Just too bad Amazon doesn't make one for the LT1000P which is the model my fridge uses. With the new filter I bought, I'm good for a year. Hoping amazon would make an amazonbasics version when its time to change filters. $50 per filter and $25 per air filter 2x a year is silly.

Perfect timing, thanks OP
Both my water filter and air filter need changing!

-----edit-----

heads up - on check out, my connection crashed. I then got an error that the order did not go through. Went through it again, and checked out properly.

Apparently the first order DID go through, as I received an email confirmation, and it appears on my order status on the LG website.

I first though I'd cancel one order, but I'll wait and see if both come through - I'll need another set of filters in 6 months anyway!

My items had been shipped and my sub cancelled. I was curious about your double order so I placed another subscribe and save on the water and air filter and I got the discount again. Sweet, looks like I'm set for the next 1 1/2 years.
