Note: Contrary to several of the early comments, the Matt Smith bundle DOES now include season 7 (apparently added to the Vudu bundle recently). Don't double buy it

As someone completely new to Dr Who, would it make sense to start with the S1-4 bundle, or go with the classic Dr Who samplers?
I'd go with the S1 - 4 bundle. It gives you time to know the characters as well as the writers.

Doctor Who: The Complete David Tennant Collection is available on a blu-ray set. Is it safe to presume that those are in HD and will be superior in video/audio quality?

Does anyone know if the BBC has any plans to upscale any of their movies or shows (other than Planet Earth and the like) to Ultra HD?

Most of this set is upsampled from SD. Doctor Who was not shot in HD until 2009 starting with the "Easter Special" aka Planet of the Dead. So yes, it will look and possibly sound better, but most of it is not "true" HD.

From what I've read, the show runners didn't want to use HD because it would expose too many flaws in the set designs, particularly the TARDIS. The show runners changed when Matt Smith started, so they rebuilt the sets to a higher standard.
That may be true, but all were ultimately converted/released as HD on BluRay (source: I own all seasons since Eccleston). Wish Vudu would go ahead and offer all seasons that way. There's such a difference when watching!

they took these off amazon prime so now this is tempting.

I only have a few seasons purchased (only discoered a few years ago you can watch them a day after they air if you buy them on vudu/amazon).

Go with the S1-4 bundle. Season 1 is Eccleston but 2-4 is Tennant and he is roundly agreed to have been the best Doctor in this iteration.

I understand my title was too bulky but when they changed this to put it front page they left off Tennant in the description. That's huge. He is a favorite Doctor and is going to be a huge draw for people. Also it makes it seem like Capaldi and Smith years are the only things on sale so people might not click it.

S12 most likely WILL update with new episodes as they come out. It won't just include S12 ep1 as it does now. Amazon does it that way. I've bought in the past and that's the way it typically goes.
OK good to know

I agree. The moderators should add "David Tennant" to the title in the Frontpage.

Is there anyway to contact them? I haven't done this before.

It's changed platforms and exclusivity so much I just bought them. It was on Netflix, then Amazon, now it's going to be on the new HBO Max. I get tired of chasing it and just bought it.
