These Aspire 5 are pretty nice from the reviews I've read and 519 is the lowest price going right now by quite a bit. Good IPS screen and brighter than most in this price range at 270 nits. You don't usually find 512 pcie SSD at $500 price point and I think it can charge with USB C. The build design could use an upgrade with large top & bottom bezels though, and despite the larger size there's no 2nd disk slot. What kills it for me is NO backlit keyboard. I don't think any of the Aspires have this feature.

On the fence with this one. 4gb of the ram is soldered so can't upgrade for dual channel.

For what this is — a low power CPU with a fast SSD and a decent form factor/screen, why would you need more than 12GB of RAM anyway? It's not like you're gonna turn this into a gaming laptop anytime soon — it seems to be aimed at everyday use, and for students. And for that, it's pretty great.

This seems like a great deal with the i7 processor and SSD. I'm not really seeing any cons. Anyone else?

I have a 15 inch aspire that features a backlit keyboard, so maybe it's just select models.

Looks like many of the -54's do come with backlit keyboard. Great to know. I guess it's the -52's that I usually see on sale.
Do you know if there is a slot ready for another storage drive in these Aspire 5's? Either pcie or sata 3 would do.
