1mg is not bad for Time Released version. From everything I've read, they say less is more, with Melatonin. For a regular Instant Release version, the recommended effective dosage is 0.5mg for most who don't suffer from chronic insomnia. None of that 10mg bullshit. If you do suffer from chronic insomnia, go see a sleep specialist before taking 10mg, 5mg or even 3mg!

I used to take 3mg for few years but I used to wake up so groggy even after 8 hours of solid sleep. I cut it down to 0.5 mg - 1 mg and my sleep quality went up considerably. Now I only take it as needed which is the end goal of melatonin supplementation.

PS: If this was instant release tablets, I would say split it in half for 0.5mg dosage but you don't want to do that with timed release tablets. It defeats the purpose of timed release mechanism.

Less is DEFINITELY more with melatonin. I have this. It works great. In fact, sometimes take half a pill. Dreams can be a bit crazy though.

Is it really?? I've been using the 10mg dissolvable, under the tongue and it knocks me out in 15 minutes. I always do have some crazy weird dreams if I take a break and come back to it after a few weeks. Another issue is sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep.

Are these time releases better?
