According to their own website, they should also price match other online retailer prices as well. They even list the retailers that they will price match.

It's "Walmart.com's Price Matching Policy"
which apparently only applies to walmart.com

Super confusing because they used to pricematch in store.

I've price matched just fine, you have to make sure it's actually being sold by walmart and not another company just listed on their website, too.
Happened to me at Walmart and Barnes&Noble. Store pickup (online order) was cheaper than in-store price. So the stuff was definitely sold by Walmart/B&N and not a 3rd party.
In both cases, the (friendly) cashiers suggested ordering online and picking it up when ready (while I shopped around). Guess its just something store managers force on their associates.

I'm keeping my original ac1900 Nighthawk.
Works great. Can't kill it.
I have 25 separate connections running 24/7 including my Plex Server

Just for one more in this column, I've been denied every time I've tried at 3 Cincinnati locations, once by a manager and she even went so far as to accuse me of presenting a fake website to her to get one over on them. One of the many reasons I do as little Walmart shopping as possible.
I would call the 1800 Walmart number and complain.

That's exactly right. Does not include in store just online Walmart.com. So dumb

even better, it appears to have openwrt support
I don't see support for open wrt, or dd wrt on their supported devices, it appears dd wrt supports the R7000, which isn't the same as R7200 (this router), not sure if R7000 means it supports the series or just that specific model.

I bought the Archer AX1500 from Walmart with MU-MIMO and Wifi6 for $69 and it runs circles around this Netgear.

Upgrade over ASUS AC68U?
I was wondering the same thing since I'm still on my modified tm-ac1900 / ac68u. Technically you can get faster bandwidth at 2.1Ghz. I couldn't find out if they have a faster CPU in this vs the 7000 which was just barely better than the 68u at the time. I don't see any mesh-networking capability.

For me, I'm not seeing enough of an upgrade reason. My AIMesh is finally working pretty well which is a nice benefit.

Here's a review comparison of the 7000 & 68u from back then, and the 7200 is just a slight improvement: https://www.mbreviews.com/netgear...-rt-ac68u/

Good deal if you can find it. More reliable with third party firmware.

AiMesh is stupid unless you hardwired to each router around your home. Wirelessly bridge them isn't enterprise grade design.
