Didn't see this posted elsewhere. Bestbuy is currently offering the Moto Z3 Play for $99 when activated or $149 to activate later. This is the 32gig model and doesn't seem to come with any accessories.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/moto...Id=6348108

Now back in stock on Motorola.com for $149 for 32gb model with 2 free style shells. They also have the 64gb model with a power pack or Alexa mod for $229 with 2 style shells. if you qualify they have free financing with 0 percent APR.

Without activation this is a better deal.

The latest responses are from a week ago (January 2020) and there is no indication that anything has changed. Apparently it is a limitation of Android and file encryption. Are you sure that you are using adaptable storage and not portable storage?
I set it up and haven't had any issues at all... it's our travel phone, but seems to work fine with a 32gb mSD.

I have used over 30 phones this year I don't get how anyone is happy with this budget phones. They are slow laggy and have a lack of ram. I settled on a s10 not because I wanted to pay a higher price. But because the other phones I used Moto z4 included were slow.
honestly you just sound odd. you went through 30 phones? damn

No, you pay $99 for the phone at best buy, then cancel the plan at verizon (within 3 days) and no fees including activation will be applied.

but I want it on Verizon....so I cancel the plan, and then come back later and show the phone as a "BYOP" deal with zero activation? (Bring your own phone?)

Order with another carrier, then cancel, then take it to Verizon. That's what I was going to do, but I'm having trouble locating a phone. If I order for in-store pickup, I think I'll have to activate phone service at order time and I won't be able to cancel during the 3-day window.

I've had a Z3 Play for about a week. When I first got the phone and installed an SD card it would not format as internal storage - not presented as an option.

However, after I updated the phone from Android 8.1 to Android 9 and reinstalled the card it then did format as internal storage. How or why I don't know but glad it did as otherwise I was going to return the phone.

Choose Sprint for activation. You have 30 days to cancel with Sprint and get all service charges and activation fee refunded.

Thanks, but for some reason, when I chose Sprint, the phone rang up at $150. So, we cancelled activation and went with Verizon. We never got to activate it because of a problem when the Best Buy guy scanned the phone box. The number didn't register with their system or something. They only had two phones and neither would work. I have a feeling that the dude just didn't know what he was doing. There's only one other store in my area and I'll try it tomorrow. It looks like inventory is getting low.

**How do you know that there is a 30-day window to cancel the Sprint activation? Where is that info?

Weird. Try ordering online. It shows $99 when I added the phone into the cart with Sprint activation.

Thanks, but that reads like I would have to actually return the phone. What do you think?

You don't have to return the phone. You buy it from Best Buy and you own it. The Sprint activation with Best Buy is considered as BYOD, where you buy the phone from Best Buy, you own it, and you activate it on Sprint via Best Buy. I have done this a few times.

Port out the number to cancel the Sprint service is recommended so that you don't have to deal with any clueless Sprint rep that may ask you many questions or say you must return the phone.

Thanks! Help me out a bit more, please. This would be my first smartphone! I thought I should get a new phone # with the activation that I planned to cancel. I do have a current dumbphone # that I'd like to keep when I sign with another carrier. **What do you mean about porting out the number to cancel with Sprint?

Yes, get a new phone number with the activation and then port out that number to any other carrier. Porting out the number automatically cancel the Sprint service so that you don't have to deal with any Sprint rep. Many people port to h2o. You can buy the following h2o SIM to port:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/h2o-...Id=6421026

You don't have to add any money to the h2o account during the port. The h2o account will automatically close with no money.

Port to h2o below:
