Is the 8x a good buy for someone just getting into birdwatching?

Serious question here. I suppose this is for someone who's into pro hunting caliber stuff? What else might it be used for? There isn't a price too high for excellence if that's what you require. I just didn't realize this would get this high.

I use a 10x42 that cost 8% of this for hunting and its great... otherwise landscape stuff is pretty good with this, bird watching, aviation spotting.

This is certainly a bit overkill for binos, imo.

While expensive they do come with a lifetime warranty that they will fix them if they break even if it's your fault. I have the previous gen. And they are nice. With everything there is smaller benefits as you go up in price you can get the vipers that are a step down for ~half of these but at least 85%as good you pay a lot of money to get those last few percent. But if you are big into hunting, Dawn and dusk is where these shine over cheaper pairs able to collect more light.

Perfect! This is the classic magnification for birdwatching. Do not get a 10.

This is a top of the line glass. Keep in mind the eye relief is somewhat shallow at 16.7mm. Make sure you can return it if it doesn't work for your eyes. A good eye relief in this price range should be 18mm, 19mm, or even 20mm.

Leica and Swarovski have binos that cost 3x these.

Wading through the tools commenting here, optics are usually buy what you can afford, depending on your use. Birding and hunting, where detail is needed, you want the sharpest glass you can get. Vortex uhd series are pretty decent, a good value for what you get. The difference between 8x and 10x at distance is noticeable. For birding, 8 is fine. 10x is a good compromise between weight and size and with their lifetime guarantee, it's not a bad price

These aren't even that expensive compared to truly high end optics. Avid outdoorsman don't bat an eye to spend $1000-$4000 for a good set of binos.
