I just got this lock off ebay. I can get it to pair with smartthings but it won't update status and I can't control it. I have tried different device handlers with no luck. I have the 910 and haven't had an issue with it so I wouldn't recommend this lock for Smartthings at least

This is something on your end/setup and not SmartThings or the lock. Got one of Rakutan (a refurb) before the holidays and it connected fine using a default device handler in SmartThings. It actually comes up as "KwikSet SmartCode 888 Touchpad Deadbolt Door Lock" in the IDE and runs everything locally.

Definitely recommend the lock for use with SmartThings and as a decent ZWave solution for a smart lock. My one dislike is the number of buttons and codes in SmartThings. Basically, a single press counts as either of the numbers on the button - the 'second' number on a button doesn't require a second press. Definitely a minor gripe, just something to keep in mind - you're really dealing with 5 buttons for code creation.

This is a good price. I bought one a few weeks ago that was a refurb, so it had some issues with the finish. It also had some issues with the battery unit connecting, so I took it apart and fixed the connections.

Wish I would have waited for this one...new.

The 5 button thing bothers me more than it should. I'm waiting for the 10 key version (914) to go for a decent price. I feel like giving a friend or neighbor a one-time code is mildly confusing and requires additional instructions on how many times to press the digit.

Yeah, I was (still am) a little confused with the 5 button thing too. So I just set it to what I wanted it be. I'm going to look up the 914 version.

Looks like the 20% coupon also applies to the 914 with 10 real keys (not the touchscreen)

Do you know if I can install only the base unit (the part that goes on the back of the door), without using the front face (part that goes on the front of the door, with the number pad? I'd like to keep my existing deadbolt so that people do not see a smartlock on the front door. TYIA

I highly doubt it but you could try.
I'd steer you towards the "conversion" deadbolts. Check them out, they sit over your existing deadbolt handle on the interior and don't change out the exterior part at all.

Weird, now it works for me. It didn't when I posted, and asked me to disable my adblock.

Note, if you're using Ublock and not Ublock Origin, you should switch. Ublock is selling your data.

I would strongly suggest looking at Schlage for smart locks having used both. These work ok but the Schlage is worth the premium IMHO.
