Naive question, but what is the difference between an Inspiron 5000 series vs. 7000 series?

7000 seems to be thinner.

8250u is not fast.

$500 seems like that should be a normal price for this laptop. Good job dell at making people think $500 is a front page deal on a product that should never be listed over $500.
Slap an apple sticker on it and you can sell it for $2K

7000 is higher end

I've got a 7000 and a xps 15 ($1000) and I swear I like the 7000 more.

Just trade in old laptop, dell has a site where they trade in old laptop at good price
The boss is paying for it if I wipe my old one and let one of his kids have it for college. It's not a bad little machine but I'm due for an upgrade and this was under what he was expecting to pay so he's doubly happy I did my diligence, which will make my next performance review that much sweeter.

Good advice for others on the trade in though!

DO NOT BUY!!!

i purchased two exact same laptops (7000 series : 7579s) two years ago for children for high school work. Same exact price on sale $500.
Problems:
One laptop was stored for year and half in the original box (unopened). After opened the hard drive gave an error on start up. Called Dell the answer was : "sorry, the 12 month period warranty is no longer applicable. Do you know that because it was stored and not used the hd can fail..." and other b/s.
Second laptop was used immediately after purchase. Two years after the battery failed.
Two weeks ago the hinge (very weak) also failed (basically the back cover on one side disconnected from the screen inside plastic screws unglued/broke). Brought to local authorized Dell store in Austin, tx. The answer it can't be repaired. The replacement screen not in stock. We don't know when it will be in stock. It is a common problem. Etc.

Bottom line: AVOID!

I have latitude e2705 and thinkpad t490. Both are really reliable and can't be compared to this tablet garbage.

This is a completely different model. This is the Inspiron 7586 2-in-1. The one you are speaking of is from 3 years ago.

Does this have same issue like other inspiron models have? "Unable to recognize adapter model" error came up exactly after one year and no proper solution exist.

Slickdeals tends to "promote" these types of Dell deals. I can only assume Dell pays them a higher commission than other computer vendors. I agree with you that this deal is mediocre at best.

This looks really tempting. Can anyone tell me if the screen is glossy or matte? I'm guessing glossy. Also maybe the screen brightness? Thanks a lot in advance! I might get one anyway!

Didn't have this one; however, one more issue and it's a big one.

Wireless card stopped working after a year. Was replaced with the identical - same issue. Right now on the third wireless card.

Interestingly, Dell puts different 256 SSDs on this laptop. One that was not working on startup was SK Hynix M/N : HFS256G39TND. The other laptop has Kingston, if I'm not mistaken, and it still working. So you're playing roulette if you buy this laptop.
