Good deal...but long layovers at LAX (4-5 hours or more).

Looks like AA has fares about $100 higher with a lot smaller cities available, too, and shorter layovers in DFW and LAX. YMMV, but that might help. Competition ftw. Delta is still much better, though.

Why can't we ever find these types of deals leaving from Boston?

I want a cheap set of tickets to visit the three main islands in a two week period, without having to spend the extra $$ on a travel agency to get some sort if discount.
Hopefully with new airlines flying between the islands, competition will lower the prices enough to make things attractive.

Because Delta only has 737 Maxi Taxis sitting idle in ATL. Whether anyone actually gets to HI is really something we all need to debate.

Delta does not have any 737 Max's in their fleet, only the 700, 800, and 900 series. They are unaffected by the groundings

Last year, we found tickets from ATL->Honolulu for around $280 RT on United. Wait around, and you might find similar deals. We went late August.

that was due to southwest airlines' launch / intro fares. the whole country benefitted from that but now flights for that price are usually seen from the West Coast.

Looks like you can! Using the link in this post and changing the origin city, I just saw BOS-OGG round trip on April 23-30 for $552 on United with short layovers (maybe too short, at 37 min). Worth trying it out anyway.

Also, when you go to select travel dates on Kayak, pay attention to the color coding of the dates, and keep an eye out for green (cheaper!).
