Alright, so I'm still rocking an Intel i5 6500 paired with a R9 390. I keep seeing the prices on these AMD processors dropping. Are they going to continue to drop, or should I jump on this?
Still rocking an over clocked Gen2 i7 and thinking the same thing, think I'm going to wait just a few more months and then jump back on the AMD wagon.

Been back and forth since the first MMX, then to the K350, jumped back to intel with the slot 1, then back to AMD with the Athlon, back to Intel with the C2D thru this i7, thinking its about time to join back up with AMD on a threadripper.

Almost took the 1900X plunge but the 1920X is the one I'd like just not at the price it is currently. If I could get that 12 core and decent MB, ASUS, ASROCKS, GIGABYTE, etc and start of with 32GB of RAM for $500 I'd be on the wagon yesterday!

I suspect these will be $99 by late summer, especially if AMD wants more market share... It's just easier to get an amd system and not deal with Intel's BS high prices...

Soon is probably Q3 at the absolute soonest...

Seems like the current advice is to wait and see what the new consoles come with... Likely to be Ryzen 3000 series 8 cores at ~3.5 ghz. If you get a faster CPU that then you should be good to go for several years as many, many PC games will be using that as their high performance baseline since they will also be released for the Series X.

Wait for the Ryzen 3000 series at these prices for gaming. That's my $.02.
The poster may be confused by the soon to release 4 series, which means AMD's 3rd generation laptop processor (I hate their laptop naming scheme). But yeah, I think the best advice for the current market is to keep going with your current system until you feel like you really need to update. The 3000 desktop processors seem to be the real sweet point to aim for performance wise (4000 shouldn't be as big a gain and will likely end the current AM4 socket), but given how fast processor prices have dropped you'll likely be seeing the 3700 next year for about this price. That's the update I'm aiming for and my current system is certainly fast enough to keep me going tell then.

except it won't, or least for the reason you provided.
DIY market is a very niche market. all those buyers from slick deal won't make even 1 percent in total system sell, and most of those systems are laptops.

if AMD want higher market share, they need to go after system integrator, who will NOT sell a previous generation chip no matter how cheap it is. the Ryzen 7 2700 can be 10 dollar to them and they won't sell it on their current generation offers.

Gotta thumb up, these current deals are blowing away Microcenter's current offerings. Especially considering any travel you'd have to do just to get there. Little weak of the preferred $50 spread to the 3600 though.

I doubt it will drop much more than this in the next few months, maybe we'll see $120/130 but I really doubt this. price / core right now is so cheap it is a great deal as is! once new generations come out and they stop major production of old dies prices generally halt or go higher in price, for new chips that is.

It's be nice if they would drop prices on the old intel xeons like e5-1650v2 with these ryzen price drops. All these fools on eBay still think their xeons are worth $100+.

Check completed auctions. They probably are. Lot of people may not be aware of all their options or price outlets

Wonder how things have changed with AMD. I have always had worse performance in random things like emulators, certain games I tried to play, hardware accelerated video encoding (ex. Plex server, because this doesn't have Intel QuickSync for example).
Just got an intel i7 9700 in my new computer so feeling kinda rused by AMD's cheaper 8-core CPUs.
