Installation fees will be all over the map. There is a lot of underhanded techniques to up charging on tire installs... so be careful to get an 'out the door' price on your tire install.

I had one discount tire here in California charge me around $50 to fill my tires with Nitrogen. Air is already made up of 78% nitrogen... so they were trying to charge me to fill my tires with air!

They often will charge you a disposal fee EVEN if you want to keep your existing tires. Oftentimes valve stems don't need to be replaced but they often charge you to replace them even if they didn't actually change them out.

I purchased some winter tires from DTD a couple months ago. The tires I received were dated 2014, so be sure to check what they send you. They took them back, no questions asked, but I had to request FedEx pick them up since I wasn't going to load them and drop them off myself. They refused to sell another set to me as the other ones might also be old (they didn't pull them off the website) and wouldn't price match on another set of comparable quality.

After other issues with the regular discounttire.com website ordering, I wouldn't recommend dealing with this company.
Yea, they also don't do good deals anymore. I'm also pretty sure they gave me a directional tire that had the direction arrow pointed in the wrong direction that last time I purchase my set of winter tires from them. I've since moved on to Belletire which is a Michigan base company if one doesn't know.

Anyone know if I can have the tires shipped to my local DT instead of my house? I won't be ready for my tire changeoever for a few months.
So you think a local shop wants to store Your tires, that you didn't even buy from them, for months?

If their website says they have 1 in stock. Is this 1 set or 1 tire lol? I don't want to apply for the credit card if they only have 1 tire

wish tires weren't so stupid with the gimmics, coupons rebates etc

I just need a couple tires at a good price for a car that maybe will last another year or two but if you just walk into a tire store it's ridiculous
Slickdeal protip: if you REALLY are only keeping it for about a year and a half, just buy a used tire for $35 each, includes mounting on your rim. Use yelp to find your local independent used tires stores.

again, it is for a finite amount of time, or to save money if you already have existing emergency towing in your insurance options, in case of emergencies.

America's tire/Discount Tire is great. Helped me with some tires and flats (repaired free) when I needed them.

Recently though, I bought tires from amazon and had them shipped to Sears. Fairly good experience and very good prices on tires I wanted.

Shop around for tires.

Goodyear does free flat repair. From the two times I have used it, it's an honest and reliable offering, at least at my local store (commack, NY). You could have bought tires from anywhere.
Maybe it depends on the location because I had the opposite experience. Goodyear charges $40 for tire repair even if I purchased the tire from them. DT never charges for tire repair even if I did not buy the tire from them.

How much does Sears charge for installation when you buy tires somewhere else? Was it cheaper than DT store? I miss our local Sears auto. They closed over a decade ago before the bankruptcy.

I am waiting for a response to your comment. If anyone has experience with switching winter tires to summer tires and storing it at the local shop.

To those who live in cold climate, do people really switch tires for winter season? I moved to the Northeast and never changed tires for winter. I kept using an all weather tire. I know it is a compromise but I have no place to store full set of winter tires at home.

Goodyear is consistent with providing an out the door price. Always ask for a print out of the fee breakdown before committing to the service. The quote will often have an expiration date of about two to three weeks.

I'll chime in with my experience here. In WA we pretty much only have DT, Les Schwab, Sears and Walmart. Sears are going away too. Our family sticks with DT (in-store) for our tires, they have been very helpful with any issues and will price match pretty much anyone (at least the manager at our local one will). I check and we always get fresh tires, and great service. I personally have never tried the DTD route or tirerack fwiw

I found the same Goodyear tires they had for $114 for $88 on Amazon so they price matched. The only thing is they will price match but not give you the $80 instant rebate. I should still get the two $50 rebates so I'm happy. It ended up being $364 for 4 tires and with just the $80 off it would have been $399.

Go to Costco, they raised the prices on installs, $5 per tire.

Regarding valve stems, we had one replaced last January for $70. Two wks ago, another valve had to be replaced for $70. They warranty these for 8yrs or so,, so I asked them how they know if this isn't a valve they've already replaced if I had a tire rotation at Big O, but they couldn't give me an answer. The problem is still unresolved, as my Cadillac still shows "Tire pressure monitoring system"

I dont have DT/AT near me, so I dont have a comparison point. However, Goodyear has free flat repair advertised on their own website, and you can make an appt and specifically choose free flat repair on the drop-down menu.

https://www.goodyearautoservice.c...lat-repair

That being said, I wont have my car inspected there ever again because they keep charging me for a new wiper saying that mine is worn out...ridiculous but if I say no, they will just fail me. Ill go to mom-and-pops for that.
