This is one of my favorite Audible deals, and doesn't seem to come up that often.

https://www.audible.com/ep/lto?so...0108209RKP

Offer available from January 13, 2020 at 12:00AM PT to January 31, 2020 at 11:59AM PT. This offer is not available to existing Audible members or customers who have been paid Audible members in the past 30 days. Offer applies only to an Audible annual membership sold by Audible.com. For the first year of your Audible membership, you will be charged the discounted price of $99.50

To be clear, you get 12 credits all at once, and they persist at least for a year (I think you can bank more than 12 but can't remember with this deal).

Note to existing subscribers, hotdogwater indicated that he was able to cancel and then resubscribe with this offer.

The wording on the Account page says that I can renew for $99.50 ($149.50) a year thereafter, but the confirmation prior to purchasing says I will be charged $149.50. I chatted with a rep who was clueless and insisted I didn't understand. He said I must use my existing credits and cancel, then use the offer. That is absolutely NOT what the web page says:

Here's what you need to know to get the most out of membership:
Special Promotion: $99.50 a year, $149.50 a year thereafter.
Get 12 credits at once - each good for any priced audiobook.
Keep your audiobooks, even if you cancel.
Save 30% on any additional purchases.
Exchange any audiobooks you don't love.
Pick two free Audible Original titles every month from our curated selections.
Renew membership (button)

Then, on the first confirmation:

Renew membership
You don't have to wait for more credits. Renew your membership anytime and have access to 12 more credits.
With your new batch of credits, you will continue to receive great member benefits and savings:
Cancel | Renew Membership (buttons)

And, the second confirmation, which is:

By clicking here, your Discount Gold Annual membership will be renewed. You will receive 12 more credits and be charged $149.50 (plus any applicable taxes). Your new renewal date is Jan 13, 2021.
Would you like to renew your membership?
Cancel | Confirm (buttons)

Idiot. I guess I'll have to call a live person.
What you are looking at is your current subscription. Mine says the same and has ever since I started the current one last March. Cancel and then start again with the link above if you've used all your credits.

I love Audible, too -- I've had an account since 2001. I'm guessing you called to get this done, since I found chatting to be a complete waste of time.
Same here. Chat was a no go. Can anyone who was successfully able to use the promotion without canceling please let us know how you got it done?

It's odd that there's not a similar offer for current subscribers

I got mine extended on a chat, the person on chat was very knowledgeable. He did cancel my current account and start a new one, but gave me my unused credits back and even gave me an additional 3 credits since I lost 3 months of service by cancelling. All is the same with my library.

For those who didn't know, Scribd might be an alternative or supplement to Audible. It uses something of a Spotify model for books in that you get access as long as you pay $10/mo. It has a very good selection of audio and e-books, including most new releases, but as you use them, some of the titles will "disappear" until the next billing cycle. It's kind of a dodgy setup, but if you listen to/read many books and you don't have to keep them, it's still a very good value.
I tried Scribd and quickly discovered if I listen to just 3 semi-popular books in a month, literally EVERY book anyone has ever heard of aside from old classics and such immediately becomes unavailable until the next month, with no explanation. They make it look like it's just some normal thing that nobody can access these books yet, instead of an obvious indication that their so-called "unlimited" is basically a lie. If they were honest about it and said something like "read up to 3 premium books per month, plus unlimited classic and independent books" I could consider them trustworthy and decide if that is worth the cost, but instead they keep touting "unlimited" which is misleading at best, so I stick with Audible for books I want to own or that aren't available elsewhere, and the local library apps for the rest.

I have one more month left for the free amazon credit if you listen for 3 months. Does anyone know if signing up for this cancels that credit?

I was initially refused by email, so I mentioned that they're allowing some current members to take advantage of it and asked the CSR who refused to forward the request to a supervisor. That person gave me the deal as an "exception" to not lose me as a customer. (I really was not going to resub at the regular price.)

I do agree with others here that (while it was a little annoying to have to do the above back and forth), Audible CS is exemplary. They're fast, pleasant, and they really do seem to try to resolve any issues reasonably.

It seems that 2 books/mo at $10/mo for Scribd works out to be $5/book.

Does this mean that Scribd works out to be cheaper per legit/"premium" audiobook than Audible if you:
  • only listen to 2-3 per month,
  • are OK with Scribd's more limited selection audiobooks before they even start to limit you, and
  • never want to relisten to a book?

I agree their model is misleading. Their "unlimited" plan means only you have unlimited access to a purposefully shrinking supply and there's no clear way to know how their system works. But even so it still is a pretty good value at that price, if you're willing to do business with a company who is not really candid with its paying customers.
