Best Buy has the TCL 55" Series 5 on sale for 329.99. If you use coupon code TCLDOLBY15, it brings it down to $280.49. This beats the $299.99 Christmas deal.

If this is not for a big room, then get this 55in instead of the 65inch 5 series. The 65in one I got initially had bad vertical banding occasionally. I think this is the sweet spot to avoid the vertical banding. Plus this price is the lowest I've seen. The 65in 6 series currently listed here would be better than the 5 series, but I do not own one of the 6 series so I cannot say anything about vertical banding on that one.

It's a much better TV too. This is the 2018 model 6 series which is imo the best bang for buck HDR TV out there right now. Is comparable to the old KS8000 from Samsung which up until the latest Q80/90 was probably their best TV.

Brightness, color gammut and local dimming are hugelu important for HDR. The 615 is a much much better deal.
What about the 625? It's the same price as the 615. Is one better than the other?

The 615 model (series 6) is more expensive but if it's within your budget it's worth spending the additional $100 to $150 more - I have two of them at this point and the picture quality on both is just amazing, at one point it was wirecutter's best recommended TV and had very good reviews from cnet.

Having said that absolutely hang onto the box the TV comes in and your receipt for as long as possible - actually take a picture of the receipt and hang onto that (back up that file somewhere safe of the pic) ... the reason being you're unfortunately kind of playing a lottery when you buy the TCL brand Frown ... they are absolutely the best bang for your buck but if you check out the amazon reviews there are a LOT of angry, bitter upset customers who "lost" the TCL lottery and were stuck with a TV that basically went bad months after the initial purchase.. one reviewer irately complained that TCL's customer service basically sucked and their one year warranty was useless. Hopefully if this happens to you your credit card company will step in under their extended warranty program (though the c.c. company will absolutely make you jump through a bunch of hoops, they'll pay for it but will insist on a TV tech coming along to make an official diagnosis of the TV stuff like that..)

Having said that my 615 model has lasted over 18 months so far without any problems Smilie ..the more recent purchase from November 2019 is still going strong too Smilie ..

The series 5 got pretty good reviews from CNET for the price too just not as good as series 6.

I can confirm, I'm one of those unlucky customers that has been very angry. Had a 50 inch TCL about 18 months. Now it intermittently powers off every few minutes. The It has the latest firmware which was released 2 weeks ago, but the issue started about a month ago.

I remember getting my 65" KS8000 for $1199 on a Samsung EPP deal and thinking I hit the jackpot. It's amazing how fast these cheaper makers picked up their technology game and how fast prices dropped.

Go all the way to the end. You will see credit card page. You will be one step away from placing the order. That is where you will enter the coupon. It is silly. But that is the way it is.

It was still worth it. I did the JS9000 and then the KS8000 later after selling it. And doing that EPP deal. I did the $700 55" though so stung a bit less. Still up until their latest Q80/90 models I think the KS8000 was easily one of their best HDR sets. Insanely bright and good color. I think you still did well. This set isn't even comparable. The 615/625 are comparable, but with different trade offs.

That sounds like the power supply board. The back of the TV opens easily. You can find the part on eBay for about $25 or less and plenty of how to videos on changing it. Like changing ram in a laptop. TCLs are very easy to work on. My 55" picture went out. My CC card made me jump through too many hoops so I fixed it myself. The closest authorized repair center was 50 minutes away. These sets are disposable when you see how small the boards are. If I recall, you can buy all 3 boards for under $85.
