To be fair, I caught flak for the latter as well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just in case anyone needs a slightly cheaper configuration, B+H has the i7 version for $2,399 [bhphotovideo.com].

Same spec as the OP but with i7 processor. in short, i7 / 16GB / 1TB / 5500M 4B.

$2,499 for i9 or save $100 for i7 , most probably wont notice any difference (especially w/ 16GB)

Good price for the specs, definitely depends on what your needs are. It's a fairly large laptop. weighs 5.6lbs + 1.8lbs for the charger so probably not ideal for those that do a lot of traveling. Also the screen is only 1080p and i'm not sure about the color accuracy, which is not ideal/deal breaker for most looking to compare MBP 16". lastly the battery is only 46wh so i suspect very short battery life <5hrs likely. but again if you're workflow allows you to be plugged in most of time then might not be big issue for you. i've never heard of the brand (didn't even realize Walmart has their own laptops) so can't comment on build quality and reliability although plastic base might be a flag for some.

...but since it doesn't sound like you need mac OS for your development work and don't do any video/graphics then you probably have lots of options, definitely find the configuration that works best for you.
I should have bought that sub $300 i3 (which was actually an i5) laptop during this blackfriday. I'm really kicking myself now. Now, hunting for a reliable desktop build where the motherboard must have the ability to flash back and use older versions of the bios. I think the $300 i5 (newest) would have been sufficient for a stop gap..

Video card failing... Macs are not without their flaws, but in most cases Apple ends up caving and covering fixes even out of warranty. They replaced my 2013 mbp logic board in 2018 due to the video card failing even though it was years out of warranty. Unfortunately it failed again a year later ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
How did you get Apple to cave? I was told a 2011 was completely out of warranty even for the known issue so a replacement logic board couldn't be ordered and there was nothing that they could do.

Any advice is appreciated.
